About Magistream

Magistream - the hatching game.

Magistream is a new hatching game. The concept is simple: a magic stream contains the eggs of creatures floating in it. You can remove these eggs and hatch them by getting other users to click on them.

Eventually the eggs will turn into hatchlings and then adults with the right number of clicks.

Growing your Magistream Creatures

Eggs and clicks

The eggs require clicks in order to grow up. According to the FAQ, it takes about 30 for them to grow up and another 40 to reach adulthood. Each creature has two percentage bars beside it on their profile, showing how close they are to completing their stage, and how close they are to full maturity.

You can only have four eggs at a time.

Embedding eggs
To get clicks, you need to "embed" eggs which means displaying them on a website or forum where they can be clicked on by other users. The site gives you the code in HTML for websites and BBCode for forums, but one really nice touch is the ability to generate code that embeds multiple eggs at once for forum signatures.

However you can freeze the creatures at any stage - including eggs and hatchlings - in order to try and get a complete collection.

Other Options in the game

As you may have realised, I'm rather new to this game. The game has other options including

  • Breeding
  • Trading

And more that I have not discovered yet and will add here when I do!

My Current Creatures

This is a list of my current creatures. I will add more to the lens once they have grown, but for now with no compatible adults, breeding options are limited.

Trading Pets

Unlike most games, Magistream comes with a mechanism for trading pets.A lot of players take advantage of this to open shops, breeding pets to order for gold shards or exchanging pets. It also means that if you have two pets of the same gender, it is usually easy to swap it with someone else to get the right genders for breeding.

Trades are usually easily arranged on the forum, and there are a lot of threads showing what each user wants for their creatures.

Opera issues: If you use an old version of the Opera browser, trading and embed multiple may not work - whle the creatures appear the forms do not change. This caught me out last night. Switching to Firefox resolved the problem.

Important Note

Only one account is allowed per user.

Breeding pets

I got my first breeding pair from a trade, and had a successful result (on the left). Note that unlike "streamborn" creatures, the bred egg has a Mother and Father field on its details.

Breeding is simple: Click on the breed action and it takes you to a page with two sets of images. At the top is the creature you want to breed and below it are all the creatures compatible with it. Click one of the second set to breed the pair, and sometimes an egg will result. You can only breed creatures every three days, so choose your pairs carefully!

Also remember that whether bred or grabbed from the stream you can only have 4 eggs at a time.

Donation requests

Leave your donation requests here. I can currently only breed Phoenixes and Koi, but hope to expand the range in time. If you get one elsewhere please leave a message to let me know.

Money, Gold shards and Crystal Shards

Pay to play?

The game has two forms of currency that you can use to buy rarer creatures

A Selection of Gold Bars Recovered from the Wreck of the Spanish Galleon Nuestra Senora De Atocha
Buy at AllPosters.com

Gold shards
These can be gained by posting in the forum or by clicking on a creature you haven't clicked on before. Since some of the rare ceatures in the shops can cost upwards of 1,500 gold and you only get one gold per creature/click, it might take some time for anything rare to show up on here.

Crystal Shards
These are received only if you donate cash to the game, and can by used to buy the rarest creatures.

An aspect of the game I am not so keen on is that players are encouraged to make donations towards running it, by recieving access to special creatures, Crystal shards and special member status. This does make it seem as though to complete a creature collection you would need to spend money. You may also trade with other members, but very few people will trade something that cost them money.

The lack of a Zazzle or Cafepress shop to support it also seems strange.

Errr you got something wrong. You don't have to pay money to complete your collection. You can trade donation creatures too

MagiStream is really cool. It's kind of annoying that you have to either trade or donate to get some of the rarer creatures, but it's fun all the same, and the forums are great.
