Mailbox Mandate
Did you know that postal carriers began delivering mail in the US in 1863. During the 19th and early 20th century they had to knock on doors and wait patiently for the householder to answer the door. It must have taken quite a while to deliver the mail!
In 1923 the US post office made a mandate that every household must have a mailbox or mailslot. I wonder why?

- Now this makes me wish I had a regular mailbox. I especially like the seashell one and the fall garland with welcome on it. Excellent subject.

- The covers are beautiful and you can ring the changes as the seasons pass. Loved the magnets.
I can see why the PO said all had to have mail boxes. In England we have spring loaded flaps over "holes" in the fronf door and our post is "posted" into the house although nowadays some people are having electric gates fitted so they have post boxes fixed onto the garden wall.

- I love these! I wish I had a standard mailbox. Mine is a big brick square. So glad you thought of me though and also featured the magnets. That golden lab is gorgeous!

- Goodness! I had never heard of them. They look great. But my letterbox is not that shape. Is that a common shape for a letterbox?
