Southern Magnolia Trees Bloom In Late Spring Or Early Summer
All over the South, in the Springtime, you can see and smell the blooming Magnolias and what a site it is to behold!
The fragrance is like none other and hard to describe but one whiff this time of year and you will know what I am talking about. The blossoms are beautiful from the time the bud forms until they are in full bloom. These sometimes huge blossoms give a new meaning to the term White on White. Just look at all the shades of white against all the gorgeous shades of green. Isn't it amazing.
What is the Southern Magnolia Tree?
The Blossom of the Southern Magnolia is Beautiful!
The Southern Magnolia Tree is often seen on College Campuses throughout the Southeastern United States.
This Majestic Tree Was Standing When I Was A Child
Many Magnolias are in bloom in our town but this one will always be my favorite
Yes, this Magestic Magnolia Tree was on the route we took to school back in the 50's and I have climbed up it's branches and absorbed its breath taking beauty and inhaled its unforgettable aroma.
I would estimate that this stately tree is at least 40 feet tall and 30 feet wide.
Note: Due to the fact that this tree was interfering with driver's vision, it was trimmed dramatically. I just hated to see it happen but certainly understand why it was necessary. I don't adapt easily to change so it has been difficult to take.
The Strong Limbs of the Magnolia Tree Demand You To Look In Awe
Magnolia Tree Limbs are huge and sturdy
I think I saw a Rope Swing on the other side. These trees are great for climbing and for swinging.
When we were kids we had a tire swing in our Mimosa Tree and I did some of my best thinking in that swing.

Plant A Southern Magnolia In Honor Of Your Child
We did and even as an adult he calls it his tree!
We planted our Magnolia Tree when our son was born so it has always been known as his tree. He grew by leaps and bounds and so did his tree. It is fun to take a picture of your child standing by the tree every year on their birthday. Our son is now 30 years old and measures 6 ft 4 inches. His Magnolia Tree is over 30 feet tall.
All the shades of green really give the tree depth beyond comprehension. The new growth is a bright and shining green with the older growth various stages of Olive to Hunter greens. It is an evergreen so we often cut the Magnolia Leaves at Christmastime to use with our decorations. I shine them up a bit with Cooking Oil and they look so pretty on my mantle.

Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia- A Life in Poems
by Patricia Neely Dorsey
I received a message on Face Book from Patricia Neely-Dorsey directing me to her link Patricia Neely-Dorsey "A CELEBRATION OF THE SOUTH AND THINGS SOUTHERN" about this book and I am so glad that I did. It sounds wonderful and even though we have never met, I can tell that we share an appreciation for the beautiful Southern Magnolia.
She also said that she enjoyed reading this lens.
Update: I ordered Patricia's book and treasure it.

On her website, Patricia Neely-Dorsey says this about her book:
My book Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia is a true celebration of the south and things southern. Using childhood memories, personal thoughts and dreams, I attempt to give a positive glimpse into the southern way of life. There are so many negative connotations associated with Mississippi and the south in general. I want to show a flip side of the coin. There is much to love about this much maligned and misunderstood part of our country. I would really love for you to get to KNOW Mississippi (and the south) in a different light and I want to introduce you. I invite you to Meet Mississippi Through Poetry, Prose and the written word.

- I have several magnolia prints framed and hanging in my house. Such a beautiful flower. There is also a smaller, almost dwarf magnolia that we have growing by the house in Florida. Not enough space for the large sized one.

- I live in Colorado where you never see a magnolia. But last summer I went to a retreat in Virginia where we planted a magnolia tree during a ceremony. Beautiful blooms - and I enjoyed your photos and products.

- I never knew magnolias could grow as large as the one you show in the "Magestic Tree" photo. And I love how you planted a tree for your son and take the yearly photos of him next to it.

- Looking at a Magnolia tree is like experiencing pre-history ... they are said to have been around for over 20 million years. Enchanting photographs ... and lens.

- Great lens! There are many magnolias in my home city, but mostly the size of a young tree. I've never seen such a beautiful large and tall magnolia trees and I can imagine how magnificent it looks during the blossom season. Makes me wish for spring to come :)

- I love magnolias; I lived in East Texas awhile and we had them around in the woods. There are a few here in town and they have grown pretty big so I might try one and see how it goes.

- I've never seen a magnolia tree in personj, but those are beautiful flowers. Any idea how old the magnolia tree which you used to pass while going to school is? It looks like it's been around a good long time.
