Lovely Lens on Magpies. When I arrived in England a friend told me to stop bad luck from seeing one magpie you need to say "How do you do Mr Magpie, how's your wife today?" It's so funny; but I can't help myself - like you I ALWAYS have to repeat this greeting!

Very nice lens. I grew up on the country and would raid magpie nests for a pet. We fed them hamburger and bugs I could catch. They were very fun but messy pets so we kept them outside. They learn to talk and will call the dog and drive him nuts...short trip. We even released some from the cage and they would still come when we called and land on our heads while we fed them and they pooped down our back. I have my own bird lens but, alas, no magpie images.

Magpies are such cute birds....I wonder if they are in TN... I would like to draw one for my Tennessee Bird Drawing collection if they are.

Very interesting lens! I like magpies a lot and am glad to see them in the garden; it's a shame they have such a bad reputation. I've always greeted magpies with "aye aye Captain", though I'm not sure where that originally came from! Apparently magpies are also one of the few animal species that can recognise themselves in a mirror.

I don't think I have ever seen a Magpie Bird but sure enjoyed learning about them especially the Talking Magpie Video. Amazing.

I've never heard this superstition before. I love the song of our Australian magpie. Maybe you could include a youtube video of one...

Great portrait of magpies.. magpies are said to be thieves... they go after and steal anything glittering..Rossini even composed music to the theme of the thieving magpie...now go and steal it on youtube..;).

Our magpies got evicted out of our apple tree by squirrels after only being there for a year. But they keep coming back...

This is an excellent lens Carrie - SquidAngel Blessings for you.

We have so many Magpies and they love to ride on the backs of our horses. This is very interesting because I am have a very sorrowful day today, which is very rare for me. I am going to blame it on the single Magpie I saw this morning. I will know how to deal with this the next time I see a lone Magpie but for now I just need to get through this day. What a great lens. Thank you for the special visit. It was the one bright spot in my day.

You know Carrie, I saw so many cool birds in that documentary, Winged Migration, but I'm not sure there were any magpies. But there was an interesting bird that looked like it was wearing glasses!

I read that in AUSTRALIA the MAGPIES are aggresive and have a look that would make your blood freeze and will attack or divebomb bicyclists

Wonderful bird lens and congratulations on Giant Squid! I always admired your lens ideas. Your lenses are a bit out of the ordinary. That's what I like.

OMG! Carrie -- I watched that first video and think you ought to pull out the remarkable videos and feature them -- the good ones in a single module so that you can spotlight how good they are. Amazing talking magpie!

We had magpies raise three babies in a nest in our apple tree last summer. However, squirrels moved in in the autumn so they have now built a new nest in a fir tree in a garden at the back of ours.

Nice lens and blessings to you and your Magpies!

We have magpies at our Rehab Center (4 right now). The one non-releasable one has learned to mimick the sounds of a cat, duck, cell phone, and various electronic sounds. She likes to wolf whistle too! Such an entertaining bird. I never knew all the superstitions...I'll have to keep a closer eye on them now!

I don't believe that I have ever seen a magpie. I certainly will look out for them the next time I travel to Europe.

Well, I can't say that I really like Magpies all that much. They attack my dog, LOL, but he's kind of a weenie anyway! Congrats on your new little birdie too!
