Good Quality Mahjong Game Tiles Made To Japanese Standards
The Japanese mahjong tiles are made by Taiyo Chemicals to Japanese standards. In other words, they are good quality, with clear tile faces. Unlike poor quality cheap sets, the colours do not run and there is no horrible odour clinging to the tiles.The Mahjong Game Set is ideal for Japanese "Riichi" mahjong as it includes four "red five" tiles. There are also four season tiles to make up the numbers. (Season tiles are not commonly used in Japanese mahjong.)
The tile backs are yellow-orange, representing bamboo as that was the traditional material used in making the backs of mahjong tiles.
The tiles measure 25.5mm x 18.5mm x 16mm

The mahjong playing mat that comes with the set is the ever popular SBR neoprene "JUNK" mat. SBR is the material that wetsuits are made of so it is light, strong, highly water resistant. Some playing mats can have a strong plasticy smell, but this one is odourless.The mat comes with a black plastic frame that can be dismantled for easy storage. The frame has inbuilt niches to house the scoring tallies.

A word about Japanese mahjong dice! - You may be surprised at how small they are. They measure around 8mm x 8mm x 8mm! Small dice are a common feature of Japanese mahjong. Another point about the dice: the "1 dot" is bigger than the other dots. It is indented and is painted red.
Table Wind Marker
The table wind marker is red with a white "East" character on one side and white "South" character on the reverse side.

The Japanese Mahjong Game Set all fits into a green nylon carrying bag.The big main pocket houses the dismantled and rolled-up mahjong JUNK mat.
There are five pockets along one side of the bag. Five black trays are used to hold the mahjong tiles and the accessories. Each tray slips neatly into one of the pockets.
The pockets and secured with velcro strips.
A shoulder strap makes the carrying bag very easy to carry.
The weight of the back when packed is approximately 3.1kg.
