Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Iran
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was elected Iran's president in June of 2005. Ahmadinejad's previous position was mayor of Tehran after being elected in the spring of 2003.
He was relatively unknown before entering the presidential election campaign although he was starting to make a name for himself by repealing earlier reforms.
Ahmadinejad has taken a tough stand on a number of foreign policy issues. He has been highly criticized internationally for his comments about Israel should be "wiped off the map" and his denial of the holocaust.
