Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati

Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati  founder of Kashi Ashram and Kali Natha Yoga  is an internationally known American born spiritual teacher, compassionate and committed global AIDS activist and passionate artist and writer.

Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati - The Teacher

Ma Jaya teaches from profound inner realization. Her style is very direct and carried by a great love for her students that helps them to untie the knots of the heart and overcome the obstacles of the mind. Hers is a focused and fast path to the liberation of the Self. In her colorful, down-to-earth personality and her superb sense of humor, she is the perfect teacher for those who need spirituality to be practical as well as exalted. Ma's teaching is an eclectic mix of the deep spiritual wisdom of all times and places. She teaches that God is ultimately "beyond words" and without form and yet manifests in countless ways to lead us to liberation. She offers a spiritual path alive with color, creativity, love, service, and the rituals of many faiths.

She is the Master of Kali Natha Yoga, a path to God uniquely suited to our time. Kali, a Hindu goddess, is the all-embracing Mother; she sacrifices herself for humanity and takes on the pain and suffering of her children. It is the essence of the Mother which permeates the ashram. In the end, Ma urges the seeker to see through all appearances into the deep silence of the heart where God dwells

Ma Jaya is widely known for her compassionate work, serving those who are suffering, people living with AIDS, the homeless, the poor, and anyone in need. She is most passionate about the importance of service in spiritual life.

Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati - The Artist

Introduction to Ma Jaya

Since the public introduction of Ma Jaya's work in 1991 she has had over 20 shows, the majority solo, in venues such as Villanova University, The Sarasota Visual arts Center, the Atlantic Center of the Arts, and many galleries in New York and California. In 1994 Ma Jaya completed a show at Laurina Arte in Rome, which was organized at the invitation of Salvatore Italia, the Italian Minister of culture and Art. His selection of this venue was one of only two contemporary shows that his office organizes every year.

Ma is an untrained, outsider or naïve artist whose subject matter is simultaneously mystical and autobiographical. In the work she combines Hindu mythology with emotional references to spiritual life. In Ma Jaya's art the mystical and or spiritual experience is closely linked to her creative process. One can therefore trace the course of her spiritual journey through art. Her mystical and creative paths have led Ma Jaya to a theme common in all types of art: that of the eternal mother in the various forms this archetype has taken.
