Make a Beaded Star Ornament

Pretty Hand Made Star Ornaments

Decorating the Christmas Tree is one of my favorite Christmas Traditions. We decorate our tree with a combination of Angels, Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments, Snowflakes, lights, and tons of handmade ornaments.

The tradition of handmade ornaments evolved out of need. We couldn't afford to buy more than a few new ornaments each year. The first handmade ornaments I made were simple little beaded stars. They are economical and fairly easy to make.

Add some glitter to your Christmas tree with pretty little Beaded Stars.

Supplies Needed

Beads
Floral Wire

Any small, round or oblong beads will work. The slightly oblong beads are easier to work with but I've made stars lots of stars with the round gold beads as well. This year I picked up a package of tiny multi-colored glass beads. They were harder to work with as no two beads were the same size.

Beading wire works fine, but I've found that floral wire is easier (and cheaper.)

Quick Tip: When working with beads, put a towel down on your work surface. You'll spend less time chasing rolling beads.

The Starting Point

Forming the Star

Step 1:

Draw a five-point star on paper to use as a guide.

Step 2:

Cut a piece of floral wire. With the tiny glass beads I start with a 2 foot piece. It's better to have too much than not enough. If you run short, you have to start over.

Step 3:

Small Stars: Each point has 5 beads on each side. Sting at least 35 onto the wire. Bend the wire to make the first point.

Step 4:

Shift the beads so there is 5 between the overlapping lines. Twist the wire around the one its crossing before continuing.

Step 5:

After attaching the last point, wrap the wire around the cross wire securely. Clip the left-over wire and tuck the ends out of the way.

I make new ones every year. This year I made...

Wednesday_Elf says:

My favorite handmade ornament began with my first Christmas as a newlywed (no ornament traditions yet and a small budget). I made snowflakes by sticking toothpicks in small styrofoam balls and spraying them with white flocking. When dry, and set carefully on a branch, they looked like new-fallen snow. We loved them.

Over the years I have made several different kinds of ornaments. The last few years, I have made the Beaded Ornaments with kits.

I think the last ones I made were just painted wooden ornaments. These beaded Star Ornaments are beautiful

I love homemade ornaments, but I buy them at craft fairs.

I've never made any...my kids did though.

Have a Blessed Christmas!

I love the Christmas season. I love the laughter and the shopping and the fun, but what I love most is decorating the Christmas tree. Our tree if filled with memories and reminders. With each ornament I hang, I'm reminded of all that I have to be thankful for. The Star in the East lead the way...

Christ is the focal point of the season. The rest is just window dressing.

Have a beautiful Christmas,

Lizzy
