Fleece Chew Toys for Comfort and Strength

When it comes to dog chew toys, like dogs themselves, they come in many shapes and sizes. Braided Rope toys and boiled bones may be all well and good for the larger breeds, but with small dogs and toy breeds becoming more popular, perhaps something softer and yet still-durable would be a better suit. Fleece Dog Chew Toys are a popular choice, and there are many on the market, but what if you want to add a personal touch?

One Ingredient, and One Requirement...

...A Tight Grip!

Fleece dog toys could not be any simpler to make. Fleece material is available form many fabric stores, and even from some pet stores too. Before shopping, think about the shape you're trying to achieve. For Fleece rope toys, you can be creative, and use many different colors. I recently saw a Goldfish design, which used only orange and white fleece, tied into a fish shape, with tail, fins and all!

Cut your fleece into lengths of about 8-12 inches, and begin to tie it up. With as much force as possible, use small, tight knots, and work around in such a way that no more than a couple of inches of loose fleece protrudes. You can achieve this by twisting it as you go. Remember to keep your dog's size and mouth shape in mind, and forge the thickness of your toy accordingly, so as to avoid choking.

I find some great inspiration for my toy ideas from flicking through books on animals and nature; and have subsequently made monkey chews and plush "palm tree" toys, too. Be creative, use your imagination, and you'll find that this artistic and incredibly therapeutic way of making dog toys, will strengthen the bond between you and your pooch!
