This Glazed Lemon Cake is what I describe as an 'everyday cake'. By that I mean it's quick and easy to make and it doesn't use expensive or difficult to find ingredients.

What I love about this cake is the intense taste of lemon but not in a lip puckering way. Because of the sugar in the cake and the syrup in the glaze, there is enough sweetness to subdue the lemony sourness.

If you try this recipe, I hope you enjoy making the cake and eating it.

Lyles Golden Syrup is something I've loved ever since I was a tiny child. It is the syrup almost all Brits use and the green and gold labelling hasn't changed much in all those years - or not enough for anybody to notice. Whenever a British recipe has syrup or golden syrup in the list of ingredients, this is what it means.
