Although it sounds good, there are some shortcomings of free ways.
1) You have to wait some time to get the result. If you do search engin optimization or through article marketing, the result will be seen only after several weeks or even several months. But you will be sure to see the result.
2)You need to take some time to work on it. Unlike PPC campaign, SEO takes more time to set it up and this is a slow process. But the benefit of this way is, once you have it done well, the result will be stable and you can drive lots of traffic to your website in a long term. So you can make a lot of money even you don't work on it later.
So you can see that in order to make a lot of money through internet marketing, you can choose to do it without spending any of your money. The only thing you need to do is study something about how to do it. Like how to do SEO, how to do article submit, etc.
Maybe what you really concern is how much can you make by these free ways.
Well, it depends on different person. If you take time to study and work hard for half a year, I think at least you can grab something like 1,000 to 2,500 dollars per month.
