Make A Million

I joined Squidoo in 2009 whilst trying out different money making schemes. Unfortunately at the time I didn't realise the potential that Squidoo had and I promptly forgot about it. Then in the middle of 2010 I decided to look into article marketing and stumbled across Squidoo again, this time I took notice of it and decided to write some lenses for it. After a few months I had made 67c. Most people would have looked at that and thought 'I give up, what is the point of all that work for a few cents?' But I looked at that and thought, 'finally a way of making money online that I can actually do.'

I wrote more lenses and with each new lens I noticed that my earnings began to slowly rise but I was not getting many views on my lenses. I decided to read about article marketing and SEO and traffic generation. I still read about all of those things and more because there may be new tips and tricks that I can use on my lenses. I now have many lenses and am currently earning about $5-$10 each month from Squidoo. I also joined Hubpages and Triond to see if I could make money from them as well. So far I have made a few cents from both Triond and Hubpages but with more work I can push that up to a few dollars. I also realise that back links are an important factor for getting high levels of traffic so I use Hubpages and Triond as a way to create good back links for my lenses.

I am not a full-time writer I have a full-time job, the writing is something I do in my spare time, which is why my writing can be a little sporadic, one week I will write loads of lenses and articles the next I will write nothing due to time constraints. I know that doing this in my spare time will mean that reaching one million dollars will take much longer, but it is still a fun challenge for me because I enjoy writing and I enjoy money. My writing is beginning to improve as well and I am organising my thoughts a lot better now meaning that my lenses and articles do not go off topic as often.

Making one million is no easy thing and it will take me a lot of time (unless I get really, really lucky) but I know it will be worth it to prove to myself that I can do it. I have several methods that I am going to experiment with to try to earn that magic one million.

These will include:

1. Writing product reviews
2. Writing book reviews
3. Writing movie reviews
4. Writing articles for other people
5. Providing a lens creation service
6. Writing Hubpages and Triond articles (and any other good similar sites) and linking them all up with my lenses
7. Making affiliate sales through Amazon and Zazzle and any others that may be useful
8. Selling lenses (I have sold a few lenses over that last 8 months. All I need to do is make my lenses more desirable so that people will be willing to pay more money for them)
9. Create a blog about my Squidoo journey and my million dollar challenge
10. Eventually I may create and sell my own eBook
11. Any other ideas that come to mind

I am sure there will be others who are interested in this challenge of mine and who may feel that they also want to join in, if that is the case then feel free to contact me or leave comments on this lens. I believe that it is often easier to achieve your goals if you work with other people. Remember the old adage 'two heads are better than one'. I will be noting down any tips and tricks that I uncover throughout the duration of this challenge and will either write them on this lens or in a blog that I may eventually create. I do hope people feel free to offer advice and tips as I am still quite new to the world of online marketing and making money online. I also hope that people feel that they can ask questions on here as well. To be honest I may not know the answer to your questions but if this becomes a popular lens then there will be other lensmasters with more experience who may be able to answer.

My strategy to begin with will be to research a niche topic, then write a lens about that topic using as many SEO tricks that I know, then I will write articles related to that topic and post them on Triond, Hubpages and other such sites. To help boost my earnings I will also bookmark every lens and article that I create on sites like Redgage.com, Xomba.com and Shetoldme.com because they all have an ad revenue sharing feature like Squidoo, I will also make great use of Bestreviewer.com, which also shares its ad revenue. As I do this I will hopefully improve my article writing skills and my lens creation skills.

This lens will be an ongoing piece of work and I will try to post regular updates chronicling my achievements and my earnings. I will also post any new techniques that I discover so that other lensmasters can benefit from anything that I learn.

I will also get round to writing a sales lens for any lenses that I wish to sell. I know other lensmasters have done this and I will attempt to make the lenses that I sell as interesting and powerful as theirs. I think I will split it into different sections and will have a sort of bargain bucket at the bottom of the sales lens for lenses that I do not have the time to update or cannot really think about what to do with them these bargain lenses will be sold at a very cheap price.

I have made my first $15 of this challenge. This means that I only have to make $99985 more and I will reach my million dollar mark.

Two days ago I received an email from a guy who had stumbled across one of my lenses. He explained to me that he has a website in a similar niche to my lens and offered to pay me to place a link to his site in several of my related lenses. I happily accepted and that is how I made my first $15.

I had never really thought about making money in this way until I received this email. It just goes to show that there is so much more to learn about making money online. I am going to have a look at ways I could use this idea to generate more money. I guess it is a little like offering advertising space.

I am also still looking at starting a blog for this challenge but I have not had much success with blogs as I never really know what to write in them. I will keep you all posted and will let you all know when I make more money and come up with more ideas.

To Keep track of what is going on in my 'make a million dollars' challenge I have started a blog. The reason for the blog is that if I were to write down every idea I have on this lens the lens would end up being too big and would take ages to load. I have also started my make a million blog so that I can have a nice place to put my earning updates. I will post updates to my earning here as well but using the blog I can archive the earnings and keep track of what ideas work and what ideas do not work.

Update: 27/07/11 I sold four of my lenses today and made $20 so that is another $20 knocked off my running total. So that means that the remaining amount for me to earn is $999981.29 - $20 = $999961.29. Still a fair way to go but I am getting there.
