What is Aquaponics?
Aquaponics: is the symbiotic cultivation of plants and aquatic animals in a recirculating environment.In other words you take a freshwater aquarium (pond) and use the waste that the fish produce to fertilize your hydroponic garden. Sounds kinda disgusting like that doesn't it? Now if you think of Water Lilies, Lotus plants and other aquatic plants they already use this process.
Watercress is a good example of a plant that uses this process and it's also the main ingredient in V8 Vegetable Juice. If you look at it that way it doesn't sound so bad right?
Now think if you could grow tomatoes and other vegetables using the water from a pond. You wouldn't ever have to water the plants again just keep your fish fed. The plants would filter the water so no need for filters. It's a circular process that makes up aquaponics.
