How to make a simple Christmas card with Inkscape

We can find lots of Christmas cards for free or we can buy them in e-shops. But this year we can make our own unique Christmas card. It is really simple and free.

I'll show you how to make a simple Christmas card with Inkscape.

Inkscape is open source software, similar to Adobe Illustrator®, and we can download it for free.

Christmas card is picture by Pippy2011.

Here we can download Inkscape:

This is how Inkscape looks like

We'll start with simple blue rectangle. We make it with Rectangle Tool.

For the rectangle I used color #292e9b...

...and some blur (blur 25).

Now we are going to make stars with Star tool.

They are white, color #ffffff, and some blur added. And smaller stars can be yellow too (color #eed237).

Wacom Bamboo Connect Pen Tablet (CTL470)

Amazon Price: $62.00 (as of 06/01/2012)Buy Now

Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet is a small but very useful little helper.
We can use it for photo editing, drawing, handwritten notes, signing cards and documents...
It is much easier to draw with Wacom Bamboo Pen Tablet than with the mouse.

Let's add some circles with Circle Tool.

Circles are white too, color #ffffff, and again some blur, perhaps a little bit more this time (blur 100).

This one is larger, white, color #ffffff, blur 95.

This is going to be our Christmas ball ornament. Me make it with Circle Tool, color #02c2ed for stroke paint and for fill.

We add decorative cap with Rectangle Tool, color #1c97f9 and #106de2.

We make this one with Line tool.

Let's make another circle for second Christmas ball, color #1eb5e4 for stroke paint and for fill.

Just copy (ctrl + c) and paste (ctrl + v) decorative cap and rotate it with simple second click on it (with the first click we can move and scale it).

Now we'll add shadow with Filters - Shadows and Glows - Drop Shadow...

Let's add some shine. We draw an object with Line Tool and add blur 23.

We make Christmas ribbon with Calligraphic Tool, color #e7e9c3 for fill and color #e5d315 for stroke paint .

And finally we write 'Merry Christmas and Happy New Year' with Text Tool.

I used font Broadway BT, font size 50, color #ffffff for fill and color #f4e00d for stroke paint .

And we have our own unique Christmas card.
