Easy Guacamole Recipe - The Ingredients

A brief Web search on how to make guacamole will reveal some very varied and complicated recipes. When I make guacamole - as with anything else - I like to keep it as simple as possible. After all, adding too many ingredients of one's own choosing means that the dish ceases to be what it was intended to be! For this recipe, I am using two avocado pears, 1 large clove of garlic, half a medium tomato, one red chilli pepper, the juice of quarter of a lemon and of course, salt and pepper.

Preparing the Ingredients to Make Guacamole

A couple of technical procedures are required

Although there is nothing particularly difficult about determining how to make guacamole, there are a couple of procedures were are slightly technical. That is the peeling and removing of the stone from the avocadoes and peeling the tomato. Although peeling the tomato is not absolutely essential, it does make for a smoother finish to the guacamole. Below are a couple of links to assist you in these two procedures which, in each case, describe the required techniques precisely and in very simple terms. (Both links will open in new windows, for your convenience.)

Combining the Ingredients Together to Make Guacamole

The hard work is now done

Guacamole in Avocado Skin with OatcakesWhen the avocadoes and the tomato have been prepared, the red chilli pepper should be de-seeded and finely chopped, the tomato half finely chopped and the garlic clove peeled and crushed or grated. The avocadoes should then be crushed in a pestle and mortar and all the solid ingredients mixed thoroughly together in a bowl. The lemon juice should be added and the guacamole seasoned to taste. In the photograph to the right, I simply spooned some guacamole back in to one of the half avocado skins and served it with delicious, Scottish oatcakes.

More commonly, however, Guacamole is served with traditional Mexican food, such as perhaps Fajitis. The link below explains how to make simple flour tortillas for preparing such a recipe:

Although many people today will make guacamole with the aid of their electronic kitchen gadgetry, there is something special about making these recipes in the traditional way, as they have been prepared for centuries. The additional benefit of using a pestle and mortar to make your guacamole may also be that they allow you to work out some of the frustrations of your day!

I have included but three very different examples of the pestles and mortars available on Amazon as an example. It is possible to click on any of them for further details or browse for yourself the Amazon.com Kitchenware Store or Amazon.co.uk Kitchenware Shop.
