Creepy Crawley Halloween Crafts

Spider Crafts to Fill Your Lair

Arachnids have had a bad rap...I mean really, how can tiny little spiders scare so many huge humans only to end up squashed under a foot with a 200 lb. stomping power. Really people! It is time to create temples to these little guys, remember them as they truly are, innocent, fuzzy, eight legged creatures of this beautiful earth. All they have ever asked of us is to live in peace in a little corner of our homes. Their webs are unique artwork that give beauty to our plain flat walls. How would you feel if you stayed up all night to create a intricate crocheted doily and then to have some weird looking two legged monster rip it apart with a broom? Now who is the scary one?

Join me in crafting Halloween tributes to these small creatures. Honor them with potion bottles, cookies, window web sanctuaries and more! Craft today in celebration of the creepy crawlies!

Instructions for Crafting Spidee

Stained Glass Cobbles Spidee Close-up

Spidee's Potion Sign

1. Knead 1/2 block of black polymer clay then form into a ball.
Flatten the ball with your hand then roll out into a thin flat sheet 1/8" thick using the wood dowel.
Cut a rectangle 1 3/4" wide by 2" long.
Using a toothpick make two small holes 1/4" from the top of the rectangle for the wire hangar.
Put the sign backing aside.

Spidee

1.Knead one block of black polymer clay until soft then form into a ball.
Flatten the ball into a wedge giving the spider a formidable behind!
Mold the wedge into an oval approximately 1 1/2" wide by ` 3/4" long.
Using the photo as a guide decorate Spidee by shaping small pieces of colored clay then gently
pressing the pieces into the body.
Press red seed beads into the eyes for a finished touch. Scary!
2. Cut four-9" long black wires for his legs.
Gently stick the wires through the sides of Spidee's body one at a time, making sure that they are of equal
distance on either side of the body.
Place Spidee (wire legs included) and his Potion Sign Back into an over and
bake following the polymer clay manufacturers directions.
3. Once Spidee has been cooked and he has had time to cool you can decorate his legs.
Place one black bead on a leg wire followed by three red seed beads.
Repeat this pattern ending with five red seed beads.
There should be a small section of black wire left empty to form his feet.
Using the needle nosed pliers twist the remaining wire into a small circle to secure the beads.
Shape the legs by gently bending.
Glue Spidee to the top of bottle cork. Set aside to dry.

Mosaic Bottle

1. Use a craft stick to place a thin layer of glass adhesive on a small area of the clean glass bottle.
Carefully place a Stained Glass Cobble onto the adhesive one at a time, fitting them together as close as possible.
There will be some small gaps between Cobbles.
Allow the adhesive to set before moving on to the next section.
Repeat until the bottle is complete. Set aside to dry. Grouting is optional.
2. Wrap the neck of the bottle with copper wire.
Twist the ends of the wire together to fasten.

Potion Sign

Cut a piece of paper to measure 1 3/4" long by 1 1/2" wide.
Using a pen print "Lo Fat Bug Juice" using the photo as a guide.
Glue the sign to the baked clay sign backing.
Cut enough black wire to bend around the neck of the bottle and to hold the sign.
Bend the wire to form a horse shoe shape then stick the two wire ends into the clay sign's holes.
Using the pliers twist the wire up and over the top of the sign to secure it.
Place the finished sign over the neck of the bottle.
Place Spidee on top!
