But, here is a step-by-step guide to help you breeze through the
research phase.

FINDING THE NICHE

Learning how to find that "perfect" niche is one of the most important skills when learning how to make money with internet marketing.

The first thing we need to do is come up with ideas. Look around you and make note of any ideas or problems you see that could be fixed. If you need more ideas, visit some websites. Look at the front page of article sites like ezinearticles .com and see what is hot right now. Check out other sites like wikipedia.com and answers.google.com, etc.

Once you have an idea for a niche check out how many searches per month it is getting and if there are ads appearing within the search results. Why is this important? Because you can see if people are paying money to advertise a product in this niche or not. If they are paying to advertise via PPC, then they must be making money.

NARROWING DOWN THE NICHE

Now, once you have found a subject, try to narrow it down a bit. Say you picked the subject "Cars" but it has 450,000,000 searches for the BROAD TERM. This is far to many to compete with. So lets say we narrow down our niche to "Classic Cars". Today's search says that there were 1,990,000 searches done. Great subject, but way too much competition for us. So lets narrow down the niche even more. Now we try "Restoring Classic Cars" and see it has 15,900 searches. This is a good number for us. Enough searches to know there is an interest in this subject. We can also see there are plenty of PPC ads so we know there is a demand and people are making money in this niche.

Now that we have our niche, we check out forums in that niche and see what questions people are asking or what problems they may need solved. Make sure to note the answers. This method also allows you to see WHO your target consumer is. Once you have researched and found your niche, it is time for the next step,

Before we go any further I want to make sure you understand the basics. I will assume that you know how to register a domain name and web hosting. How to post articles, use blogs, choose affiliate products, etc.

To promote your niche you will want to begin with some keyword research for your niche. Once you have your keywords you will want to establish yourself within the niche and register a domain name. Preferably a domain name with your keywords as the name.

Now its time to build a simple site. Write an article about your niche and place it on your site. Write a couple more articles about your niche, or change the one you put on your site, and submit them to the major article sites like ezinearticle, goarticles and articlecity. Make sure your signature box includes a link back to your main site.

Make sure to make posts in the forums that are relevant to your niche and have a link back to your main site in your signature line. Don't try to sell your product in the forums. Just take an active role in posting and answering questions in the forums. People who read your posts will find you more honest and "real" that way and they will be more likely to click your signature link.

Another thing you can do is start a blog. Just make regular posts about your niche and have links back to your main site. The secret to getting the major search engines to visit your blogs often is to "Ping" your blog every time you update it. "Pinging" a blog is a way of notifying the major search engines, and blog directories, every time that you update your blog. The search engines come and follow links from your blog to your other sites. It's very powerful.

The search engines will visit your blogs more often than they visit regular sites, and they follow the links from the blogs pointing to your other sites. This help the search engine rankings of these sites MASSIVELY.

For a little extra cash you can run Google AdSense ads on your blogs. Simply insert these ads in your menu bar and other strategic places on the webpage. Adsense is like the "Tip Jar' of your blog.

Now that you have all these links pointing back to your main content site you can build some new simple sites promoting affiliate products within your niche. You can link to these pages from your main site.

Write a report on your niche and give it away for free to people who sign up for your mailing list. This is a great way to build a list of highly targeted buyers. So how do we do this? By using an autoresponder that allows you to capture visitor sign ups and send automatic follow ups and newsletters to your list.

Now you sell the report for $.01 on Ebay or give it away. You will also give the rights to resell or giveaway the report. The catch is your links must remain in the report. Now people will use your report as a free giveaway or resell it and it will spread all over with your links leading customers back to your site.
