Make Zhu Zhu Pet Clothes - Don't Pay Those Outrageous Store Prices!

This is the pattern for a basic dress for your Zhu-Zhu Pet. Although you could easily sew it by hand, it works up much quicker with a sewing machine.

Materials:
a piece of scrap fabric 11 inches long x 4.5 inches wide
6 inches of 3/8 inch elastic
thread to match your fabric

Instructions


Start by hemming 1 long side and both of the shorter sides of your fabric. To make it even easier, you can cut the rectangle out with pinking shears and then just turn 1/4 inch under and stitch along edge.



After you have completed the hem, you are going to make a casing along the top edge. Turn 1/4 inch under and press. Then turn 1/2 inch over to make the casing for your elastic. Stitch along the edge.



Attach a safety pin to one edge of your elastic and thread it through the casing.



Be sure to pin it at one end so it doesn't pull out.



The Zhu Zhu Pet Dress will only go around the upper part of the Zhu Zhu pet so as to not impede movement. However, the elastic will go all away around. So after you have threaded the elastic, you will need to overlap the elastic slightly and sew it to secure it. I then twist this overlapped part around so it is underneath the fabric casing.

Arrange the dress so the gathers are even. You need to leave about 1 3/4 inch of elastic showing. (This will be the part that is underneath the Zhu Zhu Pet.) Tack the ends of the dress to the elastic to keep the dress shaped. You might find this easier to do by hand.



Feel free to embellish your finished dress as you like. Suggested trims are buttons, lace, rick rack, or ribbon. Have fun with it!
