first of all let me explain you the mechanism of google Page Rank. google rank a webpage and not the complete website. for example if you look at squidoo.com then its PR is 7, and if you look at this lens which is a part of squidoo.com then its PR is 5. this is the first thing.

second thing is that google transfer PR. for example three months before this lens was ranking #4 in "work at home" section of squidoo and top five lens of each category is always live or shown on the home page of squidoo whose pr is 7. so the mechanism of pr transfer is that this PR 7 will be transferred to all the live lens which are on the home page. and during this transfer division occurs, means suppose there are 500 links on the home page, then the pr of the home page will be divided into 500 parts and then it will be transferred to all the links on the homepage. so i wants to make you clear that the inner pages of a website gets their PR from the main page even if they are not linked outside. and the same mechanism applied for the external links which a website receives. squidoo.com is PR7 it means there are many webpages with good PR which are linking to squidoo.com.

Third thing is that google also calculate time while transferring PR. you can check this at homepage of squidoo.com, the top five lenses of each category which are always live on the homepage dont have the same PR. the lenses which are on the home page for more time will definitely have more PR. so if your link is live for more time on webpage with good PR then you will derive more PR from it.

fourth reason is rel="no follow" attrib in the anchor tag, when ever google encounter this attribute then it stop the transfer of google PR. so also check whether the links which are coming to your website have rel="no follow"code or not.

now to increase your PR you must get external links to your website from more WEBPAGES(NOT WEBSITES) with some good PR. for example if you get 10-15 external links from webpages with PR2 then surely within a week your website will also get PR2. most important thing here is the concept that google rank webpages not the full website.
so no matter if you submit your website link to 1000 or 10000 directories with good PR, your website PR will never increase, because those backlinks are not coming from the webpage with a good PR. check the PageRank of the webpage of the directory which shows your websites link, it will be definitely N/A. and after that you will get the answer to your question.

it is true that making money online is a very tough job and almost 99% of people quit from their online earning within 6 months from the very first day when they try to earn online. most of them join because they received the link to a website sent by some spammers.
they tends to make money online because they never think such before, also the spammers describe the work full of temptation. and after months when they realized that online earning is full of hard work then they finally quit with a new learned lesson in life.
