Welcome, coaches!

A group of volunteer coaches have been working together to solve a sticky problem. Why are so many coaches not earning a good living? Check out the results of our work in the Resources section below: The Coaches' PR Toolkit. Here's a bit of background.

We began talking to each other in C.J. Hayden's session at the 2006 International Coach Federation conference in St. Louis. Our premise was this: we chose the profession of coaching because we want to help others and make a difference in the world. But if we can't earn a decent living, we give up our coaching practices, spend our energy at day jobs, and never make the powerful impact we know that we could.

We decided to tackle this problem head on as a community and create an action plan to solve it. We have been taking on the twin monsters of Money and Marketing, sharing our best tools and resources for mastering them, brainstorming new ideas, and inventing creative solutions. We are life coaches, business coaches, career coaches, executive coaches, and those from many other specialties.

To discover what our community identified as the problems we are facing and the new solutions we believe will address them, download the complete session results, available below. To help us implement some of these solutions, we formed the Coaches Make a Difference Initiative, a nonpartisan task force launched by coaches from a variety of backgrounds. We are not officially sponsored by the ICF or any other coaching association or school, although many different coaching organizations are participating in our projects.

If you have additional questions or input or wish to contact us, please visit our website for more information.

Our Vision

A group of volunteer coaches focus their brainpower, passion, and energy on this critical issue, beginning with the groundbreaking work accomplished at the ICF conference. Together, we produce a new way of thinking, doing, and being -- about marketing, business, money, and anything else we discover is blocking our financial success and our ability to make a difference.

How you can contribute: Take the poll on what has helped you the most so far, then post your additional thoughts under New Solutions below.

How you can benefit: Check out the Coaches' PR Toolkit we have created.

Thank you for this lense. It really is important to eventually make money. Coaches, like myself, aren't crazy about the marketing piece. It seems like just another task to outsource. I love to write though, but I am not fond of all that other stuff you need to do to get noticed. Kudos to you! BTW, I love your book choices.

Great topic and lens! Def 5 stars!

Visibility and the ability to connect with others well enough to show them how valuable your services can be and that you really care about helping them to transform their situation in a very positive way. You have to market properly and create trust.

Check out our Virtual Assistant lens (much more than just VA stuff) - we just added a link to a resource to help coaches generate more business - niche marketing. And we also offer a couple of other Coaching resources. Let us know what you think, we'd love to have you drop by!

We hope to see you there!

Like Marcia, I target women in transition as a Life Coach and one thing I learned from my coach was - measurable results. Doing work I love means accepting only clients who are willing to take action and be accountable for their outcomes. Coaching is a business and that's the way I conduct it.
