Thank you for this lense. It really is important to eventually make money. Coaches, like myself, aren't crazy about the marketing piece. It seems like just another task to outsource. I love to write though, but I am not fond of all that other stuff you need to do to get noticed. Kudos to you! BTW, I love your book choices.

Great topic and lens! Def 5 stars!

Visibility and the ability to connect with others well enough to show them how valuable your services can be and that you really care about helping them to transform their situation in a very positive way. You have to market properly and create trust.

Check out our Virtual Assistant lens (much more than just VA stuff) - we just added a link to a resource to help coaches generate more business - niche marketing. And we also offer a couple of other Coaching resources. Let us know what you think, we'd love to have you drop by!

We hope to see you there!

Like Marcia, I target women in transition as a Life Coach and one thing I learned from my coach was - measurable results. Doing work I love means accepting only clients who are willing to take action and be accountable for their outcomes. Coaching is a business and that's the way I conduct it.

My transformation came from Andrea Lee's book, conference and coaching on Multiple Streams of Coaching Income AND practicing the Laws of Attraction. I productized my coaching. I JUST doubled my income taking my workshop, "How to Love Networking" to the corp world. It CAN be done, I want to help!

We can find the sweet spot for business development by understanding the process of sales, the numbers game involved, and by using the "critical trinity" of networking, marketing, and sales in strategic concert. Integrating those three domains of action is the secret! www.sealthedealbook.com

In my opinion, the best way to move beyond marketing phobias and scarcity beliefs is through human connection. When we focus totally on the other person and what's possible for them, the coaching sells itself. When we come from a place of service, of wanting to add value, that's attractive.

I love what I do-my purpose is helping people find a life that fits! Yes, I am a coach-Career/Life Transitions is my niche- midlife women in Transition is my Target Market.
It was an "aha" when I realized-hey, I have to make $ -keep doing what I love. My coach helped me emphasize this!

Coaches need to move away from hourly billing and generic proposals. We need to articulate what it is we are going to attempt to accomplish and exactly how much that is going to cost. Without that information, it clouds the value proposition and that is never good.

It seems to me coaching as a profession has no cohesive marketing effort to specific markets. I'd like to see coaches who work with Hispanics, African-American, women, GLBT,and other groups form alliances to market coaching in general to these markets. Coaches would then focus on marketing services.

It is my experience that when we focus on the problems we solve, and not how we solve them, we tend to go much further. Marketing and sales need to capture the emotional needs of our clients and then they will come willingly. What is their why and how can we help? Sell today educate tomorrow.

Coaches need to take advantage of using group coaching programs and information products. Also making stratigic alliances with other coaches to combine expertise in common areas of need for clients. "A cord of three strands is not easily broken". How wealthy is your target market?

Coaches often market coaching. That's like marketing "red." It's a good concept, but what problem does it solve? "Red" is the perfect solution to "What color is best for our Valentine's Day heart?" What problem will YOUR coaching fix for your potential cleints?

I'd like to see it be a requirement of maintaing ICF certification that every professional coach retain and receive professional coaching for as long as s/he is in practice.

Coaching is a business and not just a program. And in business, not much happens unless you market yourself, your products and services, and close the sale. I believe we need to incorporate core business skills into the industry - marketing, selling, and overall small business management skills.
