The list of keyword tools. Because I'm writing about things I'm passionate about, I don't expect to look at keywords and suit my content to what the search engines will look for. But in the interests in getting my stuff out to more people, it is helpful to see what they're looking for, so I can choose wording that will connect with my readers.

I hadn't heard of Squoogle, so I went to check it out. At the moment, it's not accepting new content, but I'll keep an eye on it for later use. Thanks.

Right now I have three lenses in the top 100. One is seasonal. None are about squidoo. In fact, if you look at the top hundred: http://www.squidoo.com/browse/top_lenses you'll see only a handful of lenses really about squidoo. And most of the lenses about squidoo that make the top 100 today are made by squidoo HQ, which is sort of cheating. The amount of lenses about twitter makes me think that one might as easily say that you have to make a lens about twitter to make the top 100, but that too would be false.

Your lens has to be keyword researched, well linked and popular. That means it should be personal and it helps if the lensmaster (more than the lens) is popular.

Since only 100 lenses can make it into the top 100, I would not make it a goal. Getting several lenses into the top 2000 is more doable, and from a financial perspective, more important.

As for LOTD impacting lensrank... I don't think so. I think the initial jump in lensrank after LOTD can be explained by Kimberly (who's a squidangel like every other squidzitizen) blessing your lens. More: someone submitted that lens for LOTD, and they probably rated it too, perhaps they even blessed it.

Very interesting. I'd love a top 100 lens. Best I've done is in the 200's so far but I'll learn and keep trying.

Good advice and it's nice that you're using your own lens as an experiment. It's harder and harder to get into the Top 100 now because there are so many great lenses on Squidoo, so many excellent how-to lenses, and more and more lensmasters who care about the lenses they make. I say pour your heart into your topic and your lens, practice good Squidoo lensmaking habits, and let nature take its course, then lather, rinse, and repeat while doing regular updates to your existing lenses. Not being in the top 100 doesn't mean your lens isn't successful, so don't get discouraged. Thanks for including my Squidoo Somebody lens with your advice above. Nice job on a hot topic!
