It's Halloween, Time To Dress Up!
They lurch from the grave, ravenous for brrrrrrraiiiiiins...
Whether you're a fan of old-school zombies that shamble around moaning, brought back to life by some quirk of fate or satellite beams, or if you love those new-fangled living dead who contract some deadly virus that turns them into maniacal monsters, this Halloween is the perfect time to dress up in your best ruined clothes and run around the graveyard.
Zombie Costume Creation
It's cheap, it's easy, it's a little disgusting...
Zombie costumes are easy to make with items you have around the house or can be easily purchased with a last-minute trip to the store. The best part is, there's no "right" or "wrong" way to create a zombie costume. Be a zombie bride, an undead cheerleader, a mangled EMT -- the possibilities are limited only by your imagination and how disgusting you want to get!
Zombie Costume Checklist
Everything You Need to Become the Living Dead (minus the virus)
- Old clothes you don't mind cutting up. These can be items from your closet, (or your ex's closet) or things you pick up at the local thrift store. The rattier and more decrepit, the better! Bang them up, slice them, make them ragged. Remember, you've just clawed your way up from the grave.
- Fake blood. Can be purchased pre-made from the Halloween supplies section of your favorite discount store, or, the more adventuresome might like to make their own fake blood. Mix red food coloring with corn syrup and a tiny bit of vegetable oil to create gooey, oozing blood that looks so real it might've come straight from your own veins! (Warning, it's sticky and WILL stain...all the more reason to make sure your costume's made up of clothes you don't mind ruining.)
Rub the blood into your clothes, along your hairline, into your fingernails, around your mouth...anyplace you think a zombie might be crusted with blood. YUCK! - White, black and purple face makeup. Starting with a base of white, blend the black to create gray shadows around your eyes and mouth. Add blended purple and even green or blue to create the look of bruises and decay. Add a bit of black tooth eyeliner to dry teeth (rub them with your finger or a towel) or premade tooth wax to create the look of rotten teeth. Make sure the eyeliner's made of non-toxic materials.
- Dirt, dead leaves and bits of trash you can find in your yard. Rub the dirt and fake blood into the clothes to give them a truly grimy, dirty feel. Feel free to roll around in your yard full of dead leaves to make sure they get EVERYWHERE for that authentic, just-risen look.

Traditional, Modern...Avant Garde?

Zombies come in several different flavors. You have the old-school Haitian zombies under their master's spell, you have the Romero zombies reanimated with a hunger for brains, and you have the infected type of zombie that brings on the Zombpocalypse!
