There Are So Many Ways to Make Math Fun in Any Classroom!
Common complaints about math class are that it is too hard, (not getting it) or that it is too boring (no interest).
It does not have to be that like that!
Using games to make math more fun is a way to keep the students interested and engaged in their learning while reinforcing the concepts to help it all make more sense.
Many people will steer away from using games because it is not "learning." Wrong!
- When games are used as in integral part of a lesson and become one important piece of the process, learning not only happens but the retention of the skills taught is improved!
- Struggling students begin to feel succeess and the bored students become interested, allowing all to become active participants in making learning math fun.

It does not matter if you are comparing numbers, working on fractions or reinforcing addition subtraction, multiplication and division, having a pencil and paper game that can be run off again and again to give students will help challenge while motivating them. All teachers spend a lot of time creating these sorts of things, parents are always looking for them and students enjoy work disguised as fun.Simple, inexpensive, time saving resources are good to have on hand. Teacher supply stores have racks of books with these sorts of activities to choose from. It is nice to have a wide variety in one place with some print and play sheets.

They love learning these standard games that have been around forever and they all can be easily adapted to include a math twist. The physical act of touching and moving the cards around while doing the math creates concrete connection in the brain to help; reinforce the concepts.

Lets face it, we all know throwing two die and adding the numbers together, and counting the spaces you move is perfect reinforcement for your young child. Why else do we all know our "12" facts?Board games can do much more! Use the flash cards that the teacher sent home. The number rolled with the dice is not only the number you move, but the number of flash cards you must do before you move! and play away!
Bring students together with different ability levels to play one game, each with their own customized stack of flash cards!
Customized board games to designed to work on a specific skill are also very helpful tools. Particularly for some of the more advanced concepts like working with multiples, percentages, fractions and strategic thinking, a targeted board game might be just the thing.

Sometimes you just play a group game as a reward
Use book with math game ideas to get all sorts of interesting twists for games, some general, and some targeted to specific skills. When studying for a test, any child will thank you if you go outside and throw and ball or shoot baskets while quizzing the vocabulary or the questions from a study sheet.
