30 minute Bracelet anyone can make!

Ranked #11,052 in Education, #233,343 overall

A Fun and Easy Bracelet to make yourself!

In about 30 minutes you can make this. Use beads you have lying around. Or pick up some on sale at the local craft store. I added some old buttons to this one as well! They would make great gifts for birthdays, or next christmas. Older teens can make this too.
Have a bracelet making party for a group of teens at your house. A fun way to connect with your kids. Or just take time to make something for you!

Basic Materials

Use a standard WHITE CRAFT GLUE, Unless you are experienced with Loctite, then I would suggest this. It is fast, and it is a liquid that drips right where you want it. BUT, it can glue fingers, eyes, very dangerous to most.

Other basic supplies

Acu Guard from Fire Mountain Gems* scissors
*simple mesh ribbon, small width to match the beads you choose
*magnetic clasp
*beading wire
*couple jump rings (little circles of metal that can be opened and closed)
*acue guards (u shaped metal piece to secure wire to clasp) Not a absolute need, but makes your piece last a lot longer)
*various beads in different shapes and in the colors you choose. Maybe some buttons, Anything GOES!
*crimping pliers and some crimp beads
*point nose pliers with flat inside, no rings that can mar your findings

Here are my bead choices:

The light green glass beads are adorable with little white dots, the leaf, and butterfly are buttons. (note buttons can roll over sometimes so be sure the bracelet is snug on your wrist.)

Next the mesh ribbon

Here Is the photo of me cutting the ribbon to twice the length needed. I am making a 8 inch bracelet. My beading wire is 10 inches, the ribbon is twice that. Because It will be tied and twisted around things on the wire.

HINT: be sure and glue the tip of the ribbon like this photo>>>>>>>

Making a point for threading the ribbon

Now rub this glue end of the ribbon between your fingers till it is like a little point. White craft glue only works like this. I use it on hemp and lots of other ways to make a good tip for beading.

Now your ribbon is ready to start beading with!

Preparing your wire to start:

You need one of the acu-guard metal things. That U shaped finding I listed in the above photo. If you will look closely it has two tiny little holes on each side. Your crimp bead must go on the wire first, then put the end of the wire UP through the bottom, over the top U shape, and DOWN through the opposite side of the acu guard. All the while keep that crimp bead from falling off the other end!

Now down through the crimp bead. You will need to use your crimp pliers to smash this bead flat, then turn it and smash down again so it looks round. (for detailed instructions on doing a crimp or using acu-guards you can log into any bead supply store and they have videos and links on using them! Fire Mountain has lots of info.

If you scroll down I have included a video on crimping, plus, scroll down to my links to find a fantastic link to Artbeads.com where they have videos on crimping and other techniques to jewelry making.

That photo above of the acu-guard should link right to Fire Mountain if you click on the photo.

I slid a small square glass bead on the wire to hide the end of the wire that dangles out. I glued that bead in place also.
Next I made a small bow on the wire with the ribbon to start the ribbon along side the beading wire.
Now you should have two things to bead, wire and ribbon with one glass bead already on...........

Design process!

You will want to set out on a bead board like the pictures you see my things on. A little board with numbers for spacing beads and keeping your project in size. This also allows you to place beads where they will look the best .

Keep re-arranging them till you like the layout.
NOTE: the numbers go from large to small at center. Center being zero. This center area is where you will repeat back wards your design you have already done before. Not always done that way, but most the time. Keeping the design in order. Center, or zero is also where your main focal most the time will be.

Here in this photo you will see I am taking the ribbon through the large bead but not through the small green square bead. I want the ribbon to show just slightly in this design. You can accent it more by leaving more ribbon showing on the sides or less, according to your preference.

Half way done!

You can see how my design is coming. I am at zero on the bead board. layered in between is the ribbon just faintly showing through. I love the little bow on the end. I did loop back through the buttons twice to anchor them in place better.

although the size shows 9 1/2 I have just slid it closer to the camera. It is being done on the 8 inch line in reality.

The Finished Piece

After doing the rest of the beading, I added a heavy duty magnetic clasp for easy on and off. The jump rings are oval shaped on the ends.

This design can be used for tons of variety of beads! It is simple and fun. Hope you try it, and have a new fashion accessory to wear soon!
