Meatballs across various cultures - for example: In the Philippines, meatballs are called almondigas or bola-bola and usually served in a soup with rice vermicelli called misua, toasted garlic, squash and pork cracklings. Chinese meatballs (specifically, a dish common in Shanghai cuisine) are most often made of pork and are usually steamed or boiled, either as-is, or with the addition of soy sauce. Turkish cuisine features more than 80 types of meatballs (köfte) and of course, the world famous Swedish meatballs that are traditionally served with gravy, boiled potatoes, lingonberry jam, and sometimes fresh pickled cucumber. Sam's Homemade Meatballs

His favorite method of measuring was a 'pinch' of this and a 'palm full' of that. This truly is his authentic recipe.

2 pounds of extra lean hamburger
pinch of cloves
2 pinches of allspice
2 eggs
1/4 cup fine bread crumbx
1/4 teaspoon salt
Dash of pepper - 2 good shakes
3 to 4 cloves of garlic - a good size and chopped fine
A palm full (man size) finely chopped onion
Dash of oregano
Shake of powdered Garlic and Onion

Mix well. form into ping-pong sized balls.

Simmer in your favorite tomato spaghetti sauce for 2 to 3 hrs. Slow Cooker works well.

Gramabarb's "Zippy' Meatballs 

my personal recipe

1 1/2 pound of lean hamburger
1/2 cup fine breadcrumbs
3/4 teaspoon thyme
1/2 teaspoon sage
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 egg - lightly beaten
- a 1/2 onion (optional)

Combine thoroughly.
Shape into small meatballs. Brown well.

Put in a casserole and pour a can of tomato sauce over them. Cover and bake in 350' oven until sauce makes a glaze on the meatballs.

Turkey Meatballs Comfort Meal 

Turkey Meatballs
Make meatballs: In a bowl stir together well 1 lb-ground turkey, 1 lg Garlic clove; minced, 3/4 c Fresh bread crumbs, 1/2 c Finely chopped onion, 1/2 c Minced fresh parsley leaves,1 lg Egg; beaten lightly, 1 ts salt, and 1 ts pepper and form into meatballs about 1 inch in diameter. In a large heavy skillet heat 2 tablespoons oil over moderately high heat until hot but not smoking , shaking skillet, until browned and cooked through.

I like to make a pure turkey gravy from all natural turkey broth as a base and follow your favorite gravy recipe. Pour over the meatballs in a large casserole and top with heaping fluffy homemade mashed potatoes. Dot with butter and a sprinkle of cheese and bake until bubbly and the butter and cheese have melted. Serve with a big salad and crusty rolls.
