Making Money at Home: What has Worked and Hasn't Worked
Lord knows I've tried a little bit of this and a little bit of that to try and make money at home. I've been fascinated by the possibility to work from home ever since I ran my brothers home based business for awhile. Now, I am hooked on finding out what works and what is out there simply to take your talent or money and give you nothing in return.
Hopefully, somewhere within my dabbling here you can find an opportunity that will help you to earn more money at home or the advice that helps save you from wasting your precious time on dead end leads.
Let Me Know...
Is there a company or opportunity out there-- writing or not -- that you are not sure about but thinking of trying? Let me know and I just may have the information that you are looking for!
Real Work From Home Data Entry
The site does have a fairly high payout which is $50 but this make money at home data entry site actually pays you. They pay by check and they pay weekly based on pre-scheduled end date. If you are concerned about their legitamacy then let me tell you - I did not focus full time on this site (mostly because there is not always work available and when there is you have many freelancers competing for it) but during the time I did work this site in 2008 I earned just over $600. If that doesn't make you feel any better then I would suggest you check out WAHM.com forum and search Key For Cash - you will find a dedicated thread that is frequented by regular users who are all willing to share their experiences regarding this work from home site.
If you opt to give it a try there is a simple test requested at the beginning - so read through the instructions and processes but don't stress out - it really is a simple test to take and pass.
Best of Luck in your Work from home endeavors!
Earning at Infobarrel
I have been writing for infobarrel for quite some time but it wasn't until the last year that I really directed my focus on this up and coming site. Infobarrel (IB as I refer to it, most often) features an easy to use article and review submission process as well as one of the most helpful forums I have ever ran across - for those interested in earning from articles.
It has hit a few snags along the road but what keeps everyone there are the following:
1) Extremely helpful and up front Admin (If something goes wrong - they don't cover it up, they keep you in the loop the whole way)
2) The sheer potential of the site (earnings)
3) The most helpful forum - members are there to help no matter what kind of question or situation arises (personal blog/website help, problems with site or articles, personal goals and much more).
Personal Insight From My Time at IB
Right before the holiday's, last year, my article views picked up and I made the minimum $100 Adsense payout, just off the few articles (mostly holiday related) that I had up on IB. About 3 1/2 months later I hit payout again and now average payout every 3 to 4 months (which means it is not those holiday related articles that are paying off).
Over the last 3 months I tried to focus on getting more articles up on Infobarrel and have succeeded with bypassing the 100 articles I had set a personal goal to have. Now that some of those articles have had some time to mature, I've had time to edit and make a few changes in technique here and there, my views are starting to increase even more and earnings are becoming steadier than previous months.
Overall I would highly recommend IB to anyone who has a desire to write and earn in a freelance setting. Earnings so far are not out-of-this-world but they are definitely there and the potential to earn increases day after day with new site and guideline implementations being made by Admin.

Making Money at Home Writing for eHow
Experiencing the Suck in

UPDATE: eHow no longer offers the writer compensation program and has basically closed the door to new writers looking to make money. Their sister site, demandstudios, does pay writers. However they have strict guidelines - which is not a bad thing, but since the writers are not given much chance to make small corrections before getting the boot and no two editors (those who review and approve or deny the articles) seem to have the same requirements or expectations it seems far more hassle than it is worth.
For less than a year (about 4 months) I have been making money at home by submitting articles on eHow.
In the beginning, due to impatience, I was a bit deterred, it seemed like I would never be making any money at home with eHow and the low $10 payout seemed nearly unreachable. Low and behold though with a little bit of patience and just a bit of time I started to see some earnings rolling in. Being inspired by these meager earnings I started writing more and not coincidentally started to see more earnings.
By the end of my first month with under a dozen articles I made payout, barely, but I made it. The next month my earnings doubled and I started adding additional articles here and there and started to get hooked on the excitement that making money at home with eHow seems to inspire in most of its writers. This feeling is what I like to look at as the eHow suck in!
Happily I can report that at least for the time being my article earnings have more than tripled from my first month and are averaging around $60/mo and though I won't get rich anytime soon I am still making money at home and earning a residual income from my articles month after month which allows me to work on other aspects of my work at home life.
If you currently write on eHow or are considering writing for eHow and want to Maximize your earnings potential then you may want to pick up the following e book Residual Income - Maximize your Earnings . This book was written by WriterGig. She is, what I like to call, one of the eHow masters. She has and continues to make over $1000 a month on eHow possibly even a whole lot more.
I've not ran across one person who has purchased her ebook and put her tips to use who has not seen an increase nor have I heard of one person requesting a refund after purchasing her book. You know as well as I do that this is a huge achievement in the online world of those desiring to start making money at home. We only keep what we find beneficial especially if it has a return policy so this is obviously quite beneficial!

Making Money at Home with Paid Posting
A Twist on Getting Paid to Write
When you take on a posting job you are given a maximum amount of daily posts, a set payment for the job and a start, half way and completion date and you get paid upon completion of the entire job. When you take on a forum or blog job it can have a duration of a couple of days to a couple of months but you are expected to sign up and make your first post immediately and you are expected to regularly update your progress as well.
After getting over what seemed like a grueling process I gave it a shot and took on my first forum. Within the first week I found that the process actually was not as difficult as it first appeared and there was good reasons that it is ran the way it is and that inspired me to take on more forums.
I only take on a few forums a month and spend maybe an hour or two a day and for now average around an extra $30 to $60 a month depending on the forums and how many of them I take on. I make anywhere between $0.20 to $0.50 a post which is pretty good for a minimum of a 25 word post.
So if you are looking to to start making money at home paid posting is a new twist on getting paid to write, that you should keep in mind. Just FYI other forums I've worked for have easily brought me in an extra $600 to $800 a year in my spare time. If I were to have made them one of my full time methods of making money at home I could easily bring in several hundred dollars a month.

Not Making Money at Home with MyLot
GGrrrr
However, for all the black tape, lack of communication, not to mention their ability to delete topics and replies and take those earnings, with no warning, and apparently no reason, I'd say they top the list of annoying "podunk" sites I've managed to run across.
If I want to chat amongst fellow humans and make a penny I'd much rather get paid 0.15 to 0.50 for each post I made. Rather than whatever it is that they pay over on MyLot. I never could quite understand what their pay scale was.
Now, I probably would not dislike it so badly if you were at least given the opportunity to share and promote your blogs and articles, but it seems if you do you risk losing threads, posts and earnings.
I mean, seriously, how many people who are interested in making money at home writing are not also looking for a way to promote something? So wouldn't you think that would seriously drive in some members and traffic?
Oh well - No loss for me. I spent months trying to decide on MyLot and after hundreds of posts and a meager $4 in earnings I happily have washed my hands of that site.
Not Making Money at Home with ReviewStream
After attempting to submit a few reviews and getting an immediate pop up saying it was not what they were looking for. I realized that message occured simply when you did not have enough text included in your review (250 words I believe), however, there was no word minimum listed anywhere on the site.
Anyway, I figured that out and went ahead and wrote and submitted some very detailed and random reviews for some popular products, companies and a few sites. Within a few days I received emails for nearly all of the wriiten reviews stating that they were not on topics that they were interested in purchasing for the $1 or $2 they claimed. Instead I would receive a few pennies for each submitted review as they would still be used on the site.
Apparently, this is common for this site. They get a review, which is not actually read by a real person and then the majority of the time you receive an automated email letting you know that instead of receiving a dollar or two for your written review you would instead receive pennies between 0.05 - 0.40 cents, if I remember correctly.
I have now put them on my Can not make money at home list and have opted to not use their scammy service at best, anytime in the future.
