Makeup Tips For Black Women

Skincare, for ANY woman is very important. Cleansing and moisturizing your skin will set the mood for you canvas....your face. Here are some skincare tips for black women and your ever changing skin....

Cleanse Sparingly
If you are a darker skinned woman, like I am, you should cleanse once a day. Washing your face too much can strip the moisture from your skin, leaving a chalky or "ashy" appearance. Choose a cleanser and not a soap. Soap will leave a build up and dry out your skin. Think of it like this when you remove soap from your soap dish, you will see a wax build up on the soap dish, that's what you are putting on your skin. So, stay away from soap!

Moisturize Daily
Moisturizing is another essential part of your skincare routine. Dark skin is notoriously dry, so a thick and emollient moisturizer should be applied several times a day. Choose a moisturizer that contains glycerin, urea, hyaluronic acid or dimethicone, this is recommended by the University of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Child Welfare Training Program; however, those containing alphahydroxy or vitamin A should be avoided due to their irritating nature. If you prefer natural moisturizers, consider those made with shea butter and coconut oil.

Wear Sunscreen
Even though theres extra melanin in our skin, to protects us for getting sunburned and maybe skin cancer, but according to the Skin Cancer Foundation those with dark skin are even more susceptible to the deadliest form of skin cancer, malignant melanoma. Its extremely important that you make sunscreen apart of you skincare routine. Apply sunscreen before you put on your makeup in the morning and protect you entire body when you're heading outdoors. Don't assume that because you have dark skin, you're protected from sun damage.

One of the differences between makeup for black women and makeup for lighter skin women is the underlying tones that the skin is made of. According to FoundationForBlackSkin.com, Each tone type will react differently depending on how the cosmetic product was created.
