This brief lens will show you how to make yourself a cool, refreshing (or hot, if you prefer!) glass of great tasting, dairy free almond milk.

Got almonds? Got a blender? Got a strainer of some sort? Great! You can be in business very quickly. I'll show you how.

But let's back up a sec. Why would you want to make your own almond milk? Even if you are lactose intolerant or have a dairy allergy of any kind, or are simply looking for a healthier alternative to milk, or you just plain like the stuff, well, you can purchase a box of almond milk from nearly any grocery store these days, right?

Sure you can. But check out the ingredients and you might just prefer this DIY method over store bought. That way, you can absolutely insure the quality of what you're drinking. Purchase organic almonds, use filtered water, leave out the carageenan and other miscellaneous and hard to pronounce thickeners, and def drop the unnecessary sweeteners. High fructose corn syrup? Never!

The simple recipe... coming up!

Almond Milk in 5 Minutes or Less -- The Recipe

Ok, I suppose it's a little presumptuous to call this a recipe... it's more like very simple instructions. There are no exact amounts. Make it to taste, experiment a little and have fun!

Dump a handful of whole, raw, preferably organic ALMONDS into the blender. (If you're a proponent of raw foods, you may wish to soak the almonds overnight in filtered water to 'sprout' them, but it's not absolutely necessary.)

Add a pinch of SEA SALT.

Add a touch of HONEY or AGAVE NECTAR, or your choice of light sweetener.

Add about 2 cups of WATER.

Possible extras: CINNAMON, CAROB, RAW CACAO, VANILLA BEAN

COVER and BLEND for 1-2 minutes.

STRAIN (fine mesh sieve, cheesecloth, nut milk bag) or don't strain if you like it chunky!

SERVE over ice, straight or even warmed up.

DELISH!

Use Almond Milk for...

* replacing cow's milk on cereal
* an anytime protein and energy boost
* blended with ice and a spoonful of cashew or macadamia nut butter for a non-dairy 'shake'
* warmed up with carob powder for mock hot chocolate
* over ice with a sprinkle of cinnamon, like horchata
