Distilled Water or No?
Looking for a somewhat simple way to make your own distilled water? If you've ever bought distilled water in the store, you know that like most bottled water; it's not cheap. Because of this, many people are interested in making their own purified product.
There is more than one way to make your own distilled water - some requiring nothing more than a few kitchen items that you probably already have. The one I have used and call the "Ice Method" is noted in detail below.
Over the course of time, more ways will be added to this article so be sure to check back. Beyond learning how to make distilled water in your kitchen; further information will also be provided about this type of purified water and what it's useful for
What IS Distilled Water?
Distilled water is water that is distilled by a condensation process that removes minerals and other substances - resulting in a purified product

Great Science Experiment!
Distilling Water with Ice
Uh, Yeah, How's That Work Exactly?
Distilling water this way won't make large amounts so it's not likely to be the most effective method for drinking, cleaning or other activities that may require a lot of water usage. The ice method is however, a fantastic science experiment to do with children or a simplified means of getting water that is free of minerals and other contaminants - in small amounts.
How to Make Your Own Distilled Water
Ice Method
Add 2-3 inches of water to the stock pot.
Place a heat safe bowl, nearly the same circumference of the pot, in the bottom of the pot (It will float). If it sits on the bottom of the pot, put a small round baking rack in first.
Turn the stove on to medium high heat so the water will boil.
Invert the stock pot lid and place it on the pot.
Place a bag of ice chunks on the inverted pot lid.
When finished; carefully remove the melted ice and lid.
Carefully remove the heat safe bowl of distilled water from the stock pot.
Important Steam Distilling Information-Ice Method
1.) Use heat safe bowl nearly the same circumference of pot so more distilled water goes in bowl than in the pot
2.) Use as much ice as the inverted lid can hold. Might have to ladle/spoon some water off as it melts
3.) Use an inverted lid that is CURVED, not flat.

Fast Fact
National Geographic Kids states that only 1 out of 6 plastic bottles are recycled. Most end up in landfills or in our waterways. Plastic takes several hundred years to disintegrate too. Yikes!

So What'll Ya Have?
Water seems such an obscure, quiet creature simply sitting there minding it's own business. Plain or with lemon, tap or reverse osmosis - water is more significant than we give it credit for.
