Do It Yourself Landscape Ideas

If you are going to be placing your home on the market, don't forget first impressions for the potential buyer are everything. This is the only chance you have to "wow" them. And, with the increase of people shopping from the comforts of their home on the internet, they will be judging by the picture on the website. All of these are factors you will need to consider to maximize your chance at getting a positive buyer's first impression.

The first thing you, as a seller, need to do is place yourself in the buyer's shoes. And, try to do this objectively. If you can not be partial, then have a friend come over and ask them to give you some positive feedback. Figure out what path the buyer's will walk, and then you walk the same path. Normally this will entail the buyer and buyer's agent parking in the driveway, or on the street, and walking up a sidewalk to the front door. What will they see?

Buyers will judge the house initially from the landscaping they see. If the trees, bushes, or shrubs are all overgrown, it tells the buyer this house is not well maintained. Also, if the bushes and trees are all original to the house, which means they are all full grown, and fairly large, then this will also give the impression even the landscaping is very outdated. These are all areas you need to be aware of.

4 Tips For Making Home Improvements In Landscaping

The following are the 4 main areas you need to be thinking:

1. Mow
2. Prune
3. Plant
4. Mulch

Mowing means just that: Keep the yard looking its best. You yard needs to be mowed at least once a week. If you are watering your lawn, then you may need to mow every 4-5 days.

No one likes to see bushes, shrubs, and trees out of control. You should invest in some pruning sheers, and trim those bushes back. Most bushes look better if their branches are not all tangles together. Trim them back to keep a little space between them. If branches are growing into the eyes view of the house, remove them.

Many inexpensive plants can be bought at the local plant nursery. Find plants with a variety of colors, and plant these in your yard. You could even plant some of the new shrubs as well, which will show the buyers your yard is updated. If you don't want to spend the money, and then leave the flowers behind, then buy some flower pots and pot them. This way you can take the flowers with you when you leave.

Lastly, don't forget to mulch. Fresh mulch in the flower beds really does increase the appearance and the appeal of your house. If you have old rocks, or even lava rocks, get them out. They are really outdated. For a special "wow" factor, place red mulch in your flower bed.

Buyer's first impressions can mean the difference between a sale, and buyers then pin pointing out every little problem with your house. Don't give them that option. Put them in a good mood when they first walk up to your, or their, house. Make them feel like: I can't wait to move in. And the positive first impression can be achieved with some landscaping of your yard.
