If you know of a party that is going on locally or if a friend of yours is having a house party, then why not ask them to do it for free to start of with. I know you are not getting paid at first but if the party goes down really well and everyone has been on the dance floor from start to finish then you know it has gone down well. People could come up to you at the end of your set and ask you to DJ! for there next big event, this means that you can now start charging and you will be then starting to make money of your business.

If you are wanting to take it one step further then just going round your local pubs and your mates parties and you want to travel a bit more to earn more cash, then why not invest in building a website.
To make sure you want to get your clients maximum attention, then tell them all what you have done in the past, another way is that you could put on your website is a mini mix that you created. This could attract big clients as they have heard what you sound like and it maybe what they are after.
When you get a booking and you want to meet the client, be sure to be open minded on the set list that they want. There are a lot of DJ's who just stick to the same set list, yes it could go down really well. But remember it is all what the clients wants, if they have a specific set list, then use it. They will be very happy how things have gone at the end of the night, but not only that they could recommend you to even bigger events.
