Perils and Pitfalls of Being a Vendor at Holiday Fairs

Taking a stall at a holiday fair to sell crafts or other items may be a way of raising extra money during the holidays. But be careful. Being a vendor comes with its own perils and pitfalls, not to mention downright disasters. .

Here are some of the things that can go wrong:

The Prices - As the problems with the economy continue to bite, some organizers of annual events think this is the right time to raise vending fees. It's only worth it if your income from the event is going to increase accordingly.

Sometimes the venue will request a percentage of your sales rather than a fee, which could be a better deal. Some venues ask for both. You need to weigh up whether this will work for you financially.

The Space - How much space will you have for your stall and/or your display? Is the access easy? Too many stairs? Is there free or cheap parking nearby?

The Footfall - Put simply, how many potential buyers are likely to walk past your stall? Has the event been well-publicized?

Are the vendors' stalls near the center of the action? Or are they so far away they might as well be in the next town?
