Making Reading A New Hobby

Ranked #14,943 in Hobbies, Games & Toys, #227,174 overall

Do You Do Much Reading?

I never used to read. Most of the time when I was growing up, I watched television. However, as I have gotten older I have really embraced reading. Reading is probably one of the best possible hobbies you can have because it improves your brain functioning, and because it takes you to a whole different world. Check out this lens to find out why reading is so great!

The New Hobby of Reading

I know that this may seem like an obvious hobby that most people have, but I think that that is true for an older generation. My generation of people do not read as a hobby. We watch movies and listen/play music mostly. I have me very few people from my generation who read as a hobby and actually enjoy it. I used to be one of those people who only read for classes and that was it. However, since I graduated college I've started reading a lot and love it!

There are some really great reasons for making reading your new hobby. First of all, reading is so good for your brain functioning. It keeps your mind active and alive. This is way better than just numbing your mind with video games, movies, etc. Secondly, you can read about whatever you want! Reading is perfect for every person because there are books out there for everyone. You can read a book about everything from this to professional seo services to wood dowels. Whatever sparks your fancy, really. Lastly, it's not a very expensive hobby at all. You can rent books from the library, or just buy an Amazon Kindle and get your books for way less than they sell them in the stores. There's also lots of half-price book stores around.

So if I haven't convinced you that reading is a fantastic hobby yet, I don't know what will convince you. Let me just say that you are missing out on incredible life stories, other worlds, and fascinating characters. There's a book out there for everyone, so don't worry about not finding a book that will fit your personality. Right now I'm re-reading City of Bones from the Mortal Instruments series and it's amazing. If you need a book to start with, try that one!

You've listed my favorite, Pride and Prejudice. Another book I recommend is To Kill a Mockingbird, an old title but very powerful.
Thanks for reminding us all of how much fun summer reading can be.
