How I Started Making Wine From Grapes

There's nothing like a glass of really good wine. Unfortunately, I didn't use to get to taste that many, good wine is just so pricey! Well that was until a few years ago. It was then that I started experimenting with making wine from grapes at home.

Well there was a fair bit too learn. Understand, we're talking about really good quality wine here so you can't just throw some yeast into some grape juice and leave it a month. But it wasn't really too complicated. Just a little time consuming doing the research.

Fortunately, there's an ebook I've more recently found that lays it out very simply. All the information you need in one place. It's really a step by step approach which anyone can follow.

On my first batch I wasn't too worried about quality. I really just wanted something drinkable so I could save a bit of money. So I thought my expectations were reasonable for a first try.

The results? Well, they far outweighed my expectations. The wine, a Merlot by the way, wasn't just drinkable. It was fantastic. It was honestly one of the better wines I'd tasted. So obviously I didn't stop there. I made more, and I've been making it ever since. And my wine is getting better and better.

The simple truth is, it's really not that difficult to make good quality wine with this approach. Just follow the directions and get top wine, every time.

Treat The Grapes Correctly When Making Wine From Grapes

When You Make Homemade Grape Wine, Every Type Of Grape Needs To Be Treated Differently

One of the first things I had to learn about making wine from grapes was what to do with the grapes. I mean did I have to peel them? De-stem them?

Well I quickly learned that different grapes are treated differently. A red grape, for instance has to be de stemmed and then crushed. (no, not peeled!) The ebook I started out using will teach you how to do this by hand at first. But if you´re going to be making larger amounts you might consider investing in a machine to do this for you.

Then, with red grapes, you have to press the grapes after they have been fermenting for a little while. Again, the amount of grapes you are dealing with will dictate what kind of press you use. You shouldn't need anything too big though, I imagine, on you're first batch.

Different kinds of red wine grapes too, need different additives. It's essential to get this right when you are making your mix.

And that's the basics of dealing with a red grape.

There's obviously a bit more to learn, but you can find out everything you need to know about grapes from this step-by-step guide
