These include favourite "B&M" art shops and art bookshops.

Questions about art and artists

The Making A Mark Opinion Poll: I've run very many surveys and polls of different audiences for different clients in my time. The MAM Poll is all about topics of interest to artists and asked of and answered by artists reading my blog. Plus my analysis of the results!

The Art Economy, Art Business and Art Online

For people who want to do more than just create.

If you want to communicate with other artists exhibit your art and/or sell your artworks then these lenses are likely to provide some pointers.

Selling Art Online

What stimulates my art

I'm stimulated by:
- the impact of light on colour and form
- repetition and variation
- the structure, shapes and patterns I discover when looking into flowers or at scenes around me.

I love Flowers and Plants

all my sites which link to flowers

I love flowers and plants - I love looking at them, photographing them, studying them and drawing them.

Below are my gallery pages from my portfolio website and my print gallery. These reflect the the different ways that I draw flowers in both colour and a monochromatic way.

Five of my "resources for artists" information sites focus on flowers and plants. "Flowers in Art" was linked to a project on my blog; I've got three which focus on botanical art; and the fifth is about a famous botanical artist.

This lens originally started as a resource for a project on Gardens in Art on my blog Making A Mark

This site shares links to information about: looking at drawings and paintings of gardens; studying how different artists have responded to the motif of 'the garden' in order to understand more about different approaches to drawing and painting the garden; gardens which provide opportunities for drawing and painting

Great Gardens - resources for gardeners garden lovers - and artists!

I love drawing gardens! I've visited all these gardens and drawn some of them

Drawing from life is really important

I believe that developing an ability to draw from life is the one thing that teaches artists how to look and how to see.

Drawing people and information about portraiture

I'm interested in drawing people and artists who paint people and portraits.

Drawing people is an invaluable way of developing a wide range of artistic skills. I've been drawing people for many years - family, friends, people in cafes and restaurants, life class models - and other artists. The latter make wonderful models for learning how to draw people who are animated as most tend to have a neat and repetitive routine of movements when drawing or painting.

Making a Mark: 10 Tips for How to Sketch People
This is an example of a guide - which starts as a post on my blog Making A Mark

I've decided the time has come to write a bit more about sketching people. So this blog post is about 10 tips on how to sketch people - or at least my understanding of how I sketch people. This post is also a condensed version of an article I'm drafting

Other art interests

Making time for art

How to take a break

With a very busy career taking painting holidays used to be one of the few ways I could make enough time to devote to art. Artists also need a break from time to time. Here are some options for people who need to make time for their creativity.

Learn from the Masters

We can all learn from artists who have achieved mastery in their field.

Learning more about the History of Art

I've never been taught much about art history - and I've now embarked upon one of the most interesting journeys I've ever been on! Plus I've just started a new series of resource sites about art museums and galleries

Artists I've studied - as a project on Making A Mark

Resources for Art Lovers

Starting in 2007, I've spent time on intensive study of specific artists. I built these sites with the links I found during my research but the sites are active and new links continue to be added.

Most of the sites provide links to: sites about the life of the artist; major themes in the artists' work; museums, art galleries and exhibitions where you can see the artist's paintings in person or images of them online, books and articles about the artist and his/her work and exhibition catalogues and links to videos about his/her work.

Japanese artists I've studied

Making A Mark had a Japanese Art project in early 2008

Japanese artists of the Edo period influenced a lot of the nineteenth century artists I'm interested in - so it was a natural step to find out why they were so influential.

I also did a project on Japanese Art in 2008 on my blog.

Artists in History who interest me

These are information sites about other artists I'm interested in. I'm planning future projects about some of them.

Most of the sites provide links to: sites about the life of the artist; major themes in the artists' work; museums, art galleries and exhibitions where you can see the artwork; books and articles about the artist and his/her work and exhibition catalogues; videos about his/her work

Contemporary Artists who interest me

I work in coloured pencils - and I love the way David Hockney uses coloured pencils - plus he's a big believer in the importance of drawing every day and carrying a sketchbook!

More American artists who interest me

You can find my Andrew Wyeth lens in the Squidoo lens of the Day link near the top of this site

UK sculptors I like

I'm finding I like sculpture more and more - mainly when I see it outside.

Art Societies, Art Exhibitions and Art Competitions

I very much enjoy visiting the exhibitions of the major art societies and art competitions and regularly write reviews of these for my blog.

Art Forums and Groups - Resources for Artists

My Art Groups - for my sites only

These are all the art groups that I run on Squidoo which are devoted to just my lenses only

They provide a different way of bookmarking if people are only interested in some sites and not others.

Resources for Artists - open to lenses created by others

Resources for Art Lovers - including lenses created by others

Note the criteria for including a lens

These are all the art groups that I run on Squidoo which are open to the inclusion of information sites made by other people

They provide a different way of bookmarking if people are only interested in some sites and not others.

The Ultimate Challenge....

BH - Thanks for the comment. I went and checked my reference to Talens Van Gogh in Coloured Pencils - Resources for Artists and see I referred to my local supplier without identifying who that was or providing a link to their website. Big mistake!!! This is now corrected - I've provided a link to both website and the drawing catalogue which quotes prices in my review of the Talens Van Gogh pencils. As stated in that review you can find shops which stock Talens on their website (also listed) - but I'd ring the listed number and check before paying a visit to make sure that a shop stocks their coloured pencils as well as Talens paint

As stated in my review Royal Talens Van Gogh Coloured Pencils

How can you find so many hours in each day? Just one negative, however, Katherine. The real word is "duct" tape - not "duck tape," as it seems to emerge from people's mouths. The "duck tape" thing is a common comedy bit here in the U.S. But your links are wonderfully helpful; your knowledge, so generously given, is terrific; and I am so glad I ran across your site(s). Truly, your linking to so many different yet pertinent sites is of great help to this artist! And it is a real pleasure to read English well spoken, well spelled - unlike that here in the States, for the most part. And your art is inspirational, to say the least! Thank you so much, Katherine!

Having exchanged converstaion with you in the forum Katherine, I thought it was about time I headed over here to get to know you better. I am glad I did and although I do have some creativity in art, I think my main niche is in writing, so I will be heading back to visit this lens when I start looking at the resources on Squidoo for writers.
