Drawing from life is really important
I believe that developing an ability to draw from life is the one thing that teaches artists how to look and how to see.
Drawing people and information about portraiture
Drawing people is an invaluable way of developing a wide range of artistic skills. I've been drawing people for many years - family, friends, people in cafes and restaurants, life class models - and other artists. The latter make wonderful models for learning how to draw people who are animated as most tend to have a neat and repetitive routine of movements when drawing or painting.

- BH - Thanks for the comment. I went and checked my reference to Talens Van Gogh in Coloured Pencils - Resources for Artists and see I referred to my local supplier without identifying who that was or providing a link to their website. Big mistake!!! This is now corrected - I've provided a link to both website and the drawing catalogue which quotes prices in my review of the Talens Van Gogh pencils. As stated in that review you can find shops which stock Talens on their website (also listed) - but I'd ring the listed number and check before paying a visit to make sure that a shop stocks their coloured pencils as well as Talens paint
As stated in my review Royal Talens Van Gogh Coloured Pencils

- How can you find so many hours in each day? Just one negative, however, Katherine. The real word is "duct" tape - not "duck tape," as it seems to emerge from people's mouths. The "duck tape" thing is a common comedy bit here in the U.S. But your links are wonderfully helpful; your knowledge, so generously given, is terrific; and I am so glad I ran across your site(s). Truly, your linking to so many different yet pertinent sites is of great help to this artist! And it is a real pleasure to read English well spoken, well spelled - unlike that here in the States, for the most part. And your art is inspirational, to say the least! Thank you so much, Katherine!
