Your Items Should Be As Unique As You
I love selling on eBay. It's my business and my passion. Of course, I never turn down any item that I can resell. Still, I find myself increasingly going after unique or different items that I have always been interested in selling.Lately, I have been spending a significant part of my time going after memorabilia items from the 1920's to 1940's. It is really neat to be able to hold onto items that represent such a wonderful snapshot of American culture.
As I started collecting these items, I found myself more knowledgeable in these items. I knew the normal price ranges for many of these items. Plus, talking to other collectors on eBay didn't hurt as well.
Over time, I found myself buying these items in situations where the seller was not as aware of the true price as me. In many instances, these items could be resold online for a hefty profit.
By specializing in this specific niche, I have the added bonus of not only spotting great bargains but developing a loyal clientelle that often rely upon my auction listings for these 1920s -1940s items.
So as you start building sales, start to think how you can specialize in certain products. You will find greater customer loyalty....and your wallet will thank you too!

Maximize Your Listings
EBay is truly a numbers game. If you want to dabble in it and make an occassional sale, then it's fine if you want to spend most of your time making your listing look nice to make a decent sale...However, if you look to eBay as your marketplace, then you need to focus less on the "window dressing" and more on posting as many listings as possible every day.
The reason being that not every auction will succeed. So the more auctions you list, the more successes you will have that will outweigh the bad ones.
Plus, you need to have as much money as possible coming in every day since you will need this money not only to live on but also to purchase more inventory as well as provide a cash cushion when things get leaner.
Your goal should be to profit $150 per day with eBay if you want to develop a full-time income with eBay. The more auctions that you run, the more likely that you will attain this goal. And as you get better, you will find that you can hit it with ease.
But before you can get to $150, you got to go after each sale and every dollar. Always look at your numbers and statistics. Figure out how many listings will get you to $150. Also look at which listings are keeping you from that goal. Remember, every dud auction still costs you listing fees which you have to make up for!

The More You Tell, The More You Sell
Your listing descriptions will make or break you. Always choose to tell more than less. Buyers always place their confidence in those listings that tell the whole story.Pictures are an absolute must. Of course, you need at least one photo when the buyer clicks your listing, but you should strongly consider at least two more.
For these additional photos, show the item from different angles so that the buyer gets a better sense of the overall condition.
In some cases, though, I find that I am very careful in how I word things, particularly in two areas in the auction description area.
First, I make all of my auctions available to U.S. buyers only.
The reason being is that in many cases where the winner of an auction was outside the United States, I had to deal with some snafu regarding shipment or payment.
If you run the occasional auction, I wouldn't worry much about it. But when you have 50-70 listings daily, you will not want the addedd stress and distractions that can and will occur in dealing with outside markets. This may seem controversial to many but to me peace of mind is not!
Also, I minimize the wording of what conditions I place upon my buyers. in other words, at the end of my description, I do not write a 3 paragraph tirade about why I cannot deal with feedback ratings of 5 or less.
Instead, I am short but sweet, saying:"Bidders with feedback ratings of 5 or less cannot bid on this auction." Propsective bidders don't want to read long opinions, they want to read more about the product...that's all!
