About MakingUsmile

MakingUsmile is a blog dedicated to inspiring people to create positive change in their lives and to give something whether it is to inspire, motivate, or provide tech tips. On my daily grind I am many things, a tech guy, manager, mentor, and a coach. This blog is my effort to share my knowledge on a wider scale.

The title MakingUsmile comes from the phrase that I have used too many times, I have either asked you to make me smile or told you that I was going to make you smile, either way if you heard it you knew I meant it and usually some positive actions are the end result. The phrase "Making U Smile" is in no way magical, but when you come from the heart with your ideas, hopes, wishes, and dreams you just might fall into the category of MakingUsmile.

Why You Need A Career Mentor?
Having a mentor allows access to information that may not otherwise be available to you. Mentors show you the ropes, they lend you a hand, and they provide insight into a world that continues to change as you navigate through it. Mentors provide quality information because more than likely they have made the same mistakes you are questioning, so you benefit from the

Lying on your Resume
Think twice about smashing your reputation into little pieces. Companies do check your résumé for accuracy. Technology today it's very simple to check out someone's background with a few clicks on the internet. Its tough being out of work, but the embarrassment of a situations you cannot handle will be nerve racking when word gets out that you lack the skills to do what your résumé says you can do.
Safely Transition into Your New Opportunity
Hooray! Your new opportunity with, more money, new people, new location, and better benefits yes baby. Signing on to a new job can be stressful and exciting both at the same time. The word gets out to your current co-workers that you are leaving and the questions pile up. Your going to have to CYA (cover your ass) to successfully transition out of your current job without usage of friendly fire or enemy fire.
Driving Past Fear To Explorer Your Passion
If fear is the reason why you cannot pursue your dreams, put fear in the spotlight by writing down your fears. Before you can stop fear, there will be potholes, detours, and traffic jams to avoid. The question becomes how can you workaround life's obstacles?
Are you the New Manager or Supervisor
Understand your co-workers that you considered your friends may not handle your new role as well as you would have liked? Will upper management except your management style that has yet to be developed? Have you ever made the comment "if I were in charge things would be different"?

People overlook the importance of smiling. What I like to do is when I'm in a stressful situation, I think of playing basketball with my daughter. If you can learn to block everything out and focus on a happy memory a smile will come naturally and may even get you out of your jam. Thumbs up from me.

A few weeks ago, we had a company meeting where we were told two basic things. One, our health insurance payments were doubling. And two, we were no longer able to get on FB or other social networking sites, even during breaks. As I walked away and heard the grumbles from everyone, I decided that from that point on, I would create my own reality. I have woken up every day and made a conscious decision to be happy, peaceful, and full of positive energy. It has made a huge difference in my life and work. Smiling at people, humming a song, or walking with head held high are just some of my "tricks" for passing this on to others.

I have been quite down lately...but surrounding myself with positive people hs been a blessing. This lense is short but sweet..and has got me thinking about the future instead of wallowing in the present. I've taken your poll...have to say I aspire for peace of mind..because if I have that- then it only means that everything else thats important to me is in place too:)
  • AndyPo Oct 27, 2010 @ 4:59 pm | delete

I have a special little trick that works with everyone, especially sulking kids. Say, "There's a smile in your tummy, I can see it. Look, it's starting to bubble up... here it comes, here it is. You can't help it. It's going to beam out of you any second!" Normally they collapse in fits of laughter. Unless it's my daughter. Good luck on your smiling campaign. We need more of them!
