Malaga tours - Tours from Malaga

There is much to see in Malaga and many people will not even know where starting to sightseeing the city. I will try to show you the most popular spots and the "must see" places.
Making a tour from Malaga will make us to discover what this cultural city has to offer, there are many possible tours and we will not be able to make all of them, but most visitors who come for their first time to Malaga, use to repeat...there is always something to do or a new place to visit.

First day tour in Malaga

Finding the main attractions in Malaga

Malaga attractionsThe attractions in Malaga are mostly in a region delimited by the River Guadalmina and the Alcazaba. Center of this square is the Cathedral, which can serve as a landmark. One cathedral tower is missing. It remained unfinished because a bishop actually donated the money intended for the tower to the American War of Independence against the British. Malaga Cathedral is therefore called "la Manquita" - the one-armed.

Behind the Cathedral leads the street Calle San Agustin to the Museo Picasso and the street Calle Cister to the Alcazaba (with the Archaeological Museum) and the Teatro Romano. A Roman theatre in front of a Moorish castle can only be found in Málaga; both have been renovated with the emergence of the Picasso Museum and can now been reached from the pedestrian zone. The road to the right following the Alcazaba is the best way to Gibralfaro castle, with beautiful views of the bullfighting arena and the port.

South of the cathedral is the Plaza de la Marina. To the east is situated the Paseo del Parque; hundreds of exotic plants make this worthwhile for a walk. In the west is situated the Alameda, the main access road to the city. From there starts Calle Larios, the main shopping street that leads to the beautiful Plaza de la Constitucion and Puerta del Mar and Calle Nueva that will lead into the historic centre.

From the Plaza de la Constitucion leads the Calle Granada to the east, with plenty of bars and restaurants and to the Plaza Merced, where Picasso was born. This place is one of the most typical of Malaga, with a popular nightlife and some good restaurants, so maybe this is a nice place to end your first day tour in Malaga!

Second day tour in Malaga

It´s the time for the white villages and the typical spanish food.

Once you have visited the city center you may like to enjoy the beautiful views from Malaga mountains and taste the excellent food and wines there. Malaga mountains or Mijas Pueblo, are a little far from the most popular locations so my recommendation is to rent a car when coming to Malaga or to arrange a tour with a tour operator (at the bottom of this article we will post a few resources for car hire and tours I recommend and personally trust)

Mijas Pueblo: I have been there once, and I was really amazed...a view words cant explain from the entire coast including Sierra Nevada mountains. I went to a restaurant and the food was also very typical and nice: traditional spicy sausage, cold soap (gazpacho) and fried eggs.

Totally recommended to spend a day at least touring Mijas and Malaga mountains, and tasting the food is a must...as much as taking pictures of your trip.

Another option is getting to Trevelez which is a lovely experience, changing the scenary of the landscape completely while driving, the road itself is a very enjoyable experience. Get ready to mountainous roads, natural parks, and of course...the typical spanish ham and wine.

Third day tour from Malaga

Let´s face our third day tour from Malaga

This time our tour from Malaga will get us ourside the Malaga province. For this tour I propose two options, one tour for the summer and the other for those who come in winter; or if I expose in a different way, one tour for the mountain lovers, for those who like winter sports, trekking, white villages, mountain roads...and another tour for those who like coastal roads, beaches, sun. There is an option for everyone.

Winter tour from Malaga
Those who come in winter are lucky, Sierra Nevada is a popular winter resort destination in Europe and is next to the Costa del Sol. In less than two hours you can be driving in Granada, and in a little more you can be skiing or practicing snowboard in the Sierra Nevada tracks. Alhambra is also next to Granada city and Sierra Nevada for those seeking for culture.

Summer tour from Malaga
Summer means beach, sun and hot. Of course Granada option above still for who like trekking and white villages, but for the beach lovers Tarifa in the opposite driving way offer us amazing white sand beaches and a paradise for surfers and kitesurfers. The wind there is perfect for practicing those sports and we will notice when getting into Tarifa area in Cadiz with many windmills next to the road for getting the maximum benefit from the almost constant wind present in Tarifa.

A holiday destination in Spain for every season
Both of the tours ideas I propose have something in common, white villages and typical bars where we will be able to taste some of the Andalusian food and tapas.
As you can see, Malaga province and surroundings offer us enough tours to enjoy every day from our holidays in Malaga . The only negative thing I can think on is that there are too many places to visit for just a few days and we will need to come back year after year for discovering the most of Malaga and the Costa del Sol.

Tours from Malaga and car hire

Cheap car hire in Malaga for getting the most of our tours from Malaga

If you want to tour Andalusia from Malaga, lets see where to hire a cheap car. In the video we can see how close is the car rental company from Malaga airport.

My personal recommendation is car hire Malaga airport. Before your arrival you can find interesting offers for hiring a car and the avaibility of your favourite model, as we can find last minute problems, even more in high season. It is possible to book online a car in Malaga without credit card, just using your flight number.

Once you have your own vehicle, only your resistance can stop you to tour the whole city and from getting the most of revery day.

From this website we can also hire a minibus at Malaga airport for our Malaga airport transfer or our tours from Malaga. Just contact them and ask about your options, depending on your needs, you may need car hire in Malaga or a minibus if we are making a tour with many people.

Everyone is welcome to share their tours. I can share mine:
The last tour from Malaga I did was to Granada and Sierra Nevada. On my way back discovered a nice white village as searching for the coastal road, I crossed a mountain pass where found also a natural park. found many tourists stopping on a side of the road for taking pictures as the views were beautiful, also found an abandoned sort of hotel where spent at least 1 hour investigating as I like those sort of places.
