Malaria No More - Lets You Give More this Christmas

Ranked #2,569 in Nonprofits, #510,510 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund

Malaria No More. Nets Save Lives.

This Christmas a generous donor is allowing your gift giving dollars to do more. Until December 31, your gift of a net is doubled. Every dollar of any gift you make to end malaria in Africa will be matched, up to $250,000! So a gift of one net becomes two.

Giving Bed Nets has become a popular gift that gives more. For only $10 you can buy a bed net which protects a family of four against the mosquitoes that carry malaria.

UNICEF encourages people to give the gift of survival by giving an insecticide- treated bed nets as one of the UNICEF inspired gifts. This year for the second year in a row, Malaria No More will be one of the beneficiaries of the Idol Gives Back Program. Last Christmas Oprah encouraged her readers to give a net to aid in Malaria prevention as part of the year of giving brilliantly in her Christmas Issue of O Magazine.

Giving a net and saving lives is an example that even small donations can make a world of good.

Remember:  Malaria kills. Send a net. Save a life.

Ending Deaths Due to Malaria

The mission of Malaria No More is simple to end deaths due to malaria. Even thought the world has known how to beat this disease for more than a century, each year more than 1 million people still die from malaria.

Malaria is still the number one killer of children under five in sub-Saharan Africa. Nearly 15% of African children die before their 5th birthday and malaria is the biggest reason why.

Something as simple as using a bed net can prevent Malaria.

Malaria kills.

Send a net. Save a life.

An Introduction to Nets are Nice by Laura Bush

Malaria is a devastating problem in many parts of the world. Each year more than a million people die of the disease, and the overwhelming majority of these victims are children under the age of five. The most distressing fact of all is that most of these deaths need not happen, because malaria is preventable and treatable.

The good news is that individuals of all ages can make a real and lasting impact in the lives of people who are vulnerable to malaria. Nets are Nice offers an opportunity to engage the energy, creativity and compassion of children, and to make them aware of ways they can help others who are in need.

Origins and Work of Malaria No More

Malaria No More was founded in 2006 by leading non-governmental institutions. The organization works in partnership with the President's Malaria Initiative (PMI), UNICEF, the American Red Cross, the Global Fund to Fight HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Millennium Promise, United Way of America, United Nations Foundation, the Global Business Coalition and others.

Malaria No More engages individuals, organizations, and corporations in the private sector to provide life-saving bed nets and other critical interventions to families in need.

Together these investments will significantly reduce malaria infections and make malaria-related deaths a thing of the past.

Bed Net Donations

...coming and seeing it first-hand and really being able to see that we can make a difference, that's actually been the hugest thing for me. Just sitting here, realizing that all it takes is us giving of ourselves.

We can really save lives, literally, from a disease that's been devastating the country for so long.

Melinda Doolittle

Melinda worked alongside the First Lady, Laura Bush to help distribute 500,000 insecticide-treated bed nets funded in part by viewers who donated to American Idol's "Idol Gives Back" charity special last April.

Malaria No More was one of eight charities that received grants from the television fundraiser.

Oh my, a terrific lens with a ton of great information! I'll vote 5* for sure, faved & lensrolled too. A wonderful lady (not underprivileged) we met in Blantyre, Malawi has just sadly passed from malaria at 38 years old, and of course hundreds of children die every day. Best to you and your efforts here!

It is unfortunate that many people don't realize the real threat that malaria poses to many underprivileged. I hope this lens helps raise awareness. Good Luck!
  • intheflow Aug 3, 2008 @ 2:00 pm | delete
Great lens on Malaria prevention and how we can help. I've also created a lens on Malaria, but it's focus is more on how to cure Malaria. There is an actual cure as proven by using this on thousands of Malaria cases in Africa.
