Malmsbury, Central Victoria

Malmsbury is an historic town in Central Victoria. In 2008 it has been bypassed by the Calder Highway and has become a much better palce to be in without all of that through traffic. The town even celebrated by holding a monster street party.

This lens will tell you something about the township of Malmsbury and an interesting property for sale just a few minutes from the town.

You can see how you can buy  your own place near Malmsbury  - but far from the Madding Crowd

Why Malmsbury?

Ah well this place is on the fring of two of Victoria's great places to visit or live. Just to the south, 10 minutes on a quiet country road is Kyneton's Piper Street,  described in the Age Epicure as the hottest Foodie destination in country Victoria. It's replaced Daylesford, itself just a half hour away. These towns are the leading lights in the Macedon Ranges and Spa Country region of Victoria.

But wait - there's more...

Malmsbury is on the fringe of the Goldfields region. packed with beautiful historic towns and the cities of Bendigo and Ballarat. And in Victoria where there was once gold there is now wine.

Castlemaine has a vibrant arts scene, it's less than half an hours drive away. Bendigo with its gold and Chinese history is not much further.

Three wine regions meet at Metcalfe, just 5 kms north of Ah Well. Bendigo and Heathcote wine regions have a fine reputation for exciting red wines. Macedon ranges specialises in cool climate wines such as pinot noir and excellent sparkling wine and these are just on your doorstep.

Ah Well - far from the Madding Crowd

Ah Well is a 66 acre property half way between Malmsbury and Metcalfe. I'ts just over an Hour from the CBD.

The land is gently undulating and is half grazing land and half open bushland, assorted eucalyptus and acacia trees and shrubs with an understory of interesting windflowers, fungi and other native species. Much of the bushland has not been grazed, except by kangaroos for a couple of decades.

The house is spacious and user friendly. There is plenty of room for kids and or dogs to run around. The neighbors are far enough away not to bother you but its only five minutes drive into Malmsbury to stock up on the essentials or have a coffee and scroll at the famous bakery.

You can't see the house from the front gate, but it is nestled in the back away from the wide world.

About Malmsbury

A gold mining town in Central Victoria

The bare bones of the town are described in this article in Wikipedia.

But there is more to Malmsbury than that.

Kyneton - Gateway to Malmsbury

Kyneton is Victoria's hottest new foodie town. Well no it's pretty cool actually. But it is just minutes away from Malmsbury and 10 minutes from Ah Well.

What's there? Piper St is jam packed with great restaurants, food outlets and bars. It has picked the best of tree changing chefs and food people from the city and from Daylesford. The town is buzzing every weekend, reservations recommended. But you are just minutes away from your own piece of rural tranquility.
