Every Mom's Guide to Photographing Kids

I saw this photography book reviewed on a photography site or blog (I can't remember), and I thought it looked great! I bought it as a baby shower gift, but I ended up keeping it for me. Whoops! (Actually, I kept the first copy and bought two more for baby shower gifts. Everyone wins!) "Mamarazzi- Ever Mom's Guide to Photographing Kids" is a wonderful book if you are looking to take better photos of your kids!

I don't have kids, but I babysit a lot of kids and have lots of cousins, so there are always cuties around to photograph. I've always loved taking pics, but this summer, I bought myself a dSLR. A Canon T3. One of my goals for the year is to read two great photography books and learn how to use my camera. This is one of the books I'm reading.

It's not just about photographing children, though that is the focus. A lot of the tips are about photography in general.

“Mothers who doggedly pursue opportunities to take, share and display photographs of their children.”

Why I Love the Book

It's true. I have no children. But I love taking pictures and always find cute kids to photograph. My large family, my friends' kids, and the kids I sit for are all used to being models for me.

This book is wonderfully written. The author, Stacy Wasmuth, has a great voice for telling a story while teaching you all you want to know. Her tips and tricks are fantastic, and great for beginning photographers and those who want to continue to improve their art. The photos in the book are stunning!

Of all the photography books I've read, this is by far my favorite!

Note: All the photos used in this lens were taken by me. I take so many photos that I never have to use someone else's work unless I need something really unique or old. (Like William Wilberforce.) I hope you enjoy them!

With a few lighting lessons, a primer on photography basics, a bit of patient practice, and some professional tips and tricks, you'll be photographing memories that you'll be proud to have captured on film... er, pixels... in no time at all!

(Wasmuth, p. xxi)

How Many is Too Many?

Some moms, dads, and people like me have their camera as a third appendage. At what point do people take too many pictures and not "engage" in what's happening? Or do you think you can never have too many pictures?

Is there ever a time when someone takes too many pictures?

No way! You can't have too many pictures!

cffutah says:

there comes a time when the camera person needs to put down the photo taking and also just enjoy the moment.

marianne_sequeira says:

My child does not like to be photographed much ... Bit I really need to have some of the childhood memories ... but i am surely not a camera mom

smithlights says:

I am definitely on the side of never having enough pictures. I ALWAYS have a camera with me, so I never miss the shots! There are so many things I wish I have photos of, and of what I do have pics of, I don't regret having them to look at!

sherioz says:

With my first kid I took hundreds, the second kid a lot fewer. But still lots.

Jellyfresh says:

I always forget to take pictures so I say the more the merrier.

Yes, at some point, you need to live life instead of just photograph it.

GirlLovesNature says:

Yes, sometimes you need to just enjoy the moment rather than being stuck behind the camera.
