Mamma Mia - The Movie
The Feel-Good Movie of The Summer
The casting was a little strange in a few places. Donna (played by Meryl Streep) brought her two best friends to the Greek island where she has an inn. Christine Baranski was OK (if not a bit stiff) as the sexy, middle-aged diva being courted by a boy about the age of her son, but Julie Walters, who played the third in Donna's trio just didn't have the flair to pull off her part as a disco dynamo. Maybe it was the glasses or the too-short hair, or maybe the lackluster figure. I don't know. Maybe you'll like her better. She did have a showstopper with "Take a Chance On Me", though. The other casting oddity was Stellan Skarsgard. Seemed too old and didn't endear me much.
But Amanda Seyfried as Sophie was pure delight and Dominic Cooper as her fiance, Sky, well he could melt an iceburg with one glance. Hubba, baby!
All in all, a great, feel-good movie! Sing along, heck, get up and dance in your seat like I did - the audience loved it! We were still singing "Dancing Queen" in the restroom after it was over!
