Control Your Anger To Be Happy and Get the Most Out of Life

We all feel angry sometimes - it's just a part of being human. Anger can a useful emotion, but it is important to keep it under control.

Extreme anger can lead to irrational and harmful behavior. We can do and say things we may not mean to do and say. Once they are done it is too late to take them back.

It doesn't have to be that way.

Make the decision to successfully manage your anger and start enjoying a better life. Hopefully the following suggestions can help.

What Causes Anger?

Anger is a natural emotion that everyone experiences occasionally. Different events can trigger anger. What matters is how you react to them.

Anger can often be caused by frustration or stress. When life isn't going as we wish, we sometimes lash out at those around us.

Being overtired can cause us to become irritable and bad-tempered. When we feel slighted or hurt by others our anger level can rise.

Sometimes just having a bad day can cause us to become upset. As you know, things don't always go our way and this too can contribute to feelings of anger.

Even, or maybe especially, our loved ones can cause us to become furious for no good reason at all. When you expect certain behaviors out of people and they don't behave as you think they should, you can start seeing red.

Excessive Anger Can Cause Health Problems

When we are angry we get red for a reason. The blood pressure rises and forces blood into the face and head. This can lead to a stroke or heart attack. Heart attacks are often preceded by angry outbursts.

Anger also causes stress which is a major contributor to a bunch of health problems. The systems of the body don't act correctly when under stress, resulting in excess production of harmful chemicals in the bloodstream and throughout the body, among other negative things.

When you blow your top you make the people around you miserable as well. Nobody wants to be around a yelling, angry person. You're not doing their health and stress levels any good either!

It is important to get a handle on your anger. Spend some time doing soothing, relaxing things like reading a good book, listening to some easy music or whatever else it is that cause you to relax. Make it a point to let the stresses of the day fade away and your health will be much better for it.

The first step to defeating a problem is to acknowledge that one exists in the first place. Accept your anger and take steps to control it. Practice relaxation techniques and let your anger go for better health.

Think Before You Speak

Some times when we are very angry, we just start yelling whatever comes into our mind. This can cause some great problems in life. Think before you yell.

Things said in the heat of anger can really hurt friends and loved ones. Even though we may apologize and say we are sorry, mean and hurtful comments will not be forgotten. Relationships can be irreparably harmed this way.

The next time you feel anger coming on, take a few deep breaths and think before you speak. Even if the person you are dealing with is doing wrong and needs to be corrected, there is a calm and rational way to proceed instead of flying off the handle and letting anger get the best of you.

If you are a person who has always angered quickly, with conscious effort you can amend your ways. You can control your emotions if you will just try. Life may certainly go smoother if you make the effort to do so.

Some Tips to Calm Your Anger

We can all get angry sometimes and maybe with good reason. Whether we control and contain our anger in these situations can make the difference between a calm, peaceful life and one full of mayhem and chaos. It's really your choice.

If you have a severe anger problem a visit to a psychiatrist may be in order. Therapy can certainly help uncontrollable emotional outbursts.

However if you are like most of us, your anger can be more easily mastered. It may be as simple as removing yourself from the situation that is angering you. Step outside and go for a short walk or maybe just go to a different room for a change of scenery.

If you find your self in the middle of a traffic jam and start heating up, take a few deep breaths and imagine yourself at a more peaceful location. Turn on some soothing music. Getting angry and lashing out won't get you to your destination a second faster than if you remain calm and collected.

If you find your job getting to you, take a walk to the water cooler or the rest room and mentally calm your nerves. Yelling at the boss or your co-workers may feel good at the time, but you may regret it if you lose your job and are out on the street looking in.

Some people find that a cool drink or maybe a little exercise can calm them down after a rough day at the office. Physical movement can dissipate those feelings of stress and anger. Get yourself a punching bag and go to town on it. There is no law that says you can't put your bosses picture on it. 8^)

Most importantly, realize that while anger is a part of human life and will always occur, it must be managed if you are to have productive, happy life. There are publications with more and better advice on managing your anger. It may be in your best interest to read them.
