I'm glad to find someone talking about different ways of teaching anger management. Throughout my career as a trainer I have seen many cases where people's anger has gotten out of control and it's ended up costing them their job, broken down their relationships and worse.

As part of the Anger Mangement tips our trainers at MTD provide, we encourgae people to:
Take time out to calm down
Get some excercise and walk around until you fell less stressed and have a clearer head
Keep a journal of your feelings to help you reassess why you got angery and how you could deal with the situation if it was to arise again.

Great lens, and it's so important for people to have this information. Another thought is that almost always there's an underlying physical stress beneath out of control anger. I'm a stress management specialist and have my clients who have anger issues get a check up by a competent doctor- often there are blood sugar thyroid and sometimes even spinal stressors that are the root cause of the anger.

I agree with everything you say. Skill #6 is particularly challenging for those who are perfectionists. They tend to want things a certain way, and apply very high standards to the actions of others, as well. As others continually disappoint them, perfectionists can spiral down into cynicism and anger...unless they find a way to challenge their own expectations.

I would personally say that the first step is to check that you don't have an underlying problem. I have Bipolar and have only recently (3 months ago) found the correct medication to control it (Fluoxetine). A chemical imbalance in my brain caused me to get angry in an instant, many times a week. Now, I havn't had one anger episode for almost 3 months. It is bliss.
