TECO Big Bend Power Plant

The Manatees, also called Sea Cows, come to the channel by the TECO Big Bend power plant in the winter months to enjoy the warm waters. This is the view from the Apollo Beach side. The Manatee Viewing Center is by the power plant.

Boats For Sighting & Catching

This is a tagging which occured on December 30,2003.

A spotter plane spots the Manatees over Tampa Bay. One of these boats then attempts to net the Manatee.

The boat with the net.

The manatee will be loaded aboard this boat when captured.

Great lens! How lucky to have been there to be able to watch the process. The Florida Manatee's are such gentle creatures, and so curious, they are endangered by the propellers of the boats. I can just imagine those running the boats must feel horrible if they know they have hit them. It is good to see them working on conservation for this endangered species! 5* Linda
