Teaching children how to 'mind their manners' so to speak will help later on in life! I know, a trite way of putting it, but it's the first step in the gentle art of verbal self defense!

Its hard for me to imagine why things have changed so much... when I was still a tiny tot (eons ago) my parents and my teachers made sure every single one of us kids knew how to be polite and well-behaved.

Teaching politeness and manners through showing the good example is the best way.
Being polite is not only showing respect for the other person but showing respect for oneself.

I always say please and thank you to my children and they follow suit. It is so funny to hear them say excuse to strangers when we're trying to get through a narrow isle and the store. Like most other habits good or bad if children see it everyday they will mimic it.

I was very surprised to hear that MY child was the most polite child any of his teachers had seen in years. He never forgets a please or thank you...usually forgets the excuse me when he is soooo busy laughing, but it really scares me how shocked they were because it is no longer the norm. All we did was play games together where we used manners with him and he picked it up. Great lens!

Teaching manners at school needs to be revision, not the first time the children have heard of the concept.

You can't learn manners from video games. They should learn some at school. Teachers, please exhibit good manners yourselves and be role models. I fondly remember, still, my teachers who had the best manners.

Very important topic and unfortunately one that seems to be pushed to the side today for some reason. Great lens.

There is much debate on the matter, my take on this subject is that manners do play an important role in society, and it is important to have manners. However we must keep in mind that society evolves, more and more mothers are pushing in unimportant rules like don't whisper in front of others and don't chew too loudly at the table. Sure, you shouldn't chew too loudly, it's rude, but that kind of behavior is what gets children pumped up with frustration. If we are truly to get our message heard, we must move into the new era and think differently, we should put rules in like respect others as you respect yourself, general rules that can be well-understood instead of detailed rules which might make it look like you are "controlling their life" sure we aren't, but we don't want them to get that sort of mentality. Freedom is being stressed more and more, manners must evolve and compromise in order to be accepted.

Sadly, I'm seeing more and more kids these days with even fewer than basic manners. Great lens...thanks for sharing and thank you for visiting my Star Wars Holiday Gift Guide lens...I appreciate your comments.

If only more people would do what the Manners Monkey does.
