Maple Syrup

Every year during the Christmas Season, one of my husbands vendors gives my husband a bottle of this Pure Maple Syrup. Besides my husband eating it on French Toast what else could I can it for? Well, after doing some research, I have found out some fantastic information. Don't take me wrong, many years ago I use to use Maple Syrup for its health benefits, but through the years I just forgot about it.

You can substitute maple syrup for sugar in any recipe by using 1 1/2 cups of syrup to 1 cup of sugar plus 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. When you do this, you will need to make sure you cut any liquid in your recipe down by half of its amount.

I am going to share a recipe that I am in the process of creating. This recipe will be designed to be eaten at breakfast like you would a Nutrigrain Bar, but instead a lot healthier.

Although this photo came from Photobucket, I have two bottles of the exact same kind in my kitchen. So to save a little time I decided to use this picture.

“It takes 40 gallons of clear, barely sweet sap that is boiled down to produce one gallon of syrup.”

What is in Maple Syrup that is good for us?

Did you know that the majority of the minerals in pure maple syrup are potassium, calcium, magnesium, and manganese? Potassium helps with maintaining cell integrity and is also critical in keeping the heartbeat steady. Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body. If the body develops a calcium deficiency the bones will be the first to lose this vital mineral.

There are several vitamins in pure maple syrup: Niacin, B5, B2, Folic Acid, B6, Biotin and Vitamin A.

Mmmmm! Maple syrup... it's one of those rare sweets that I can "eat" without being disgusted, perhaps because it contains less sugar than others?

I love maple syrup, and didn't know about the 40 to 1 concentration. No wonder the flavor is so sweet. Thanks for sharing these recipes!

I am always eye-spying the real maple syrup in the store because what we normally buy that is labeled as syrup is simply sugar and maple flavoring...I so remember the taste of the real deal when we lived in Maine. Nom nom recipe shares as usual.

I don't believe I have ever tasted pure maple syrup. Just never had the occasion I guess. Your maple syrup bread looks and sounds really good. Maybe it is time I got adventurous. Love the look of your lens too.
