Classy Dining Tables with Marble Tops

When I moved to my new home, I moved out from a small rented furnished apartment and took very few belongings with me. That of course meant I had to buy all new furniture for my new home. This was actually something I was looking forward to because I wanted to move away from the cheap rental items I had and get furnishings that represented my own personal taste and that would be with me for many years. In particular, I was looking forward to getting a marble top dining table for future dinner parties.

When I was growing up, my family had a marble top dining table that was used only for formal occasions. When we ate on our own, we pulled up TV trays to the sofa and watched the news or sitcom reruns throughout the whole meal. But when we had company, that's when the protective cloth would come off the marble top dining table and we would get to eat in that elegant setting. I know kids generally don't like formal meals, but I guess we were an exception. My brothers and sisters were just as excited about the proceedings as I was, and couldn't wait for those parties.

My Own Marble Top Dining Table

Now that I'm in a position to have my own dinner parties, I want to recreate the same kind of magic at my place. I know a successful meal really has more to do with the food, wine, and conversation than with the furniture, but I can't help but feel that a marble top dining table lends extra class to the occasion. This is definitely going to be my first major furniture purchase, so I'm already looking at viable options.

I remember that my mother had an imported marble top dining table that came from Italy and cost more than $10,000. I have a feeling the party will bring back fond memories of my childhood even as I strive to create new memories and traditions for myself.
