Caring for Marcasite Jewellery

Because Marcasite jewellery has a sterling silver base, your necklaces, bracelets and earrings must be protected against tarnishing. The easiest way to do this is by keeping them away from air and wood base products, so if you don't have a air tight jewellery box try placing them in small plastic bags to keep out the air and mositure. Wood based products contain and acid this also contributes to the tarnishing of silver so it's not advisable to leave your jewellery on wooden shelves or in cardboard or wood gift boxes.

Pyrite can be very brittle which is why it isn't only uses in small quanities so if your storing you marcasite silver jewellery with all you other jewellery ensured you wrapped it in cloth or placed in a small material bag so it's better protected against being knocked and sratched by other jewellery.

Never leave marcasite jewellery soaking in water or placing in a ultra sonic jewellery cleaners as this may damage the Pyrite.
